Our common refrain last week was “why am I so tired?” Ryanne and I both would be exhausted by the end of the day. It’s the first week of Spring and we

Listing 2023 weekly Avg 24I can relate with being busy. We have 4 kids in baseball right now and it is getting hectic.
The last two weeks the weather has SUCKED and caused us to get sick again. We always get sick when the weather goes bonkers in the transition to spring. I hate this time of year in this area so much.
Ebay is 100% on the backburner right now. I’m thankful my store keeps churning out 20 sales a week even without my input.
The reality is that ebay will stay a backburner thing until the end of May. Baseball is going to occupy pretty much every day in April/May. We’ll also be in crunchtime for getting school done with the kids. We haven’t done sports since before Covid. While I’m thankful we’re getting the kids out and doing fun sports with their friends, it is OVERWHELMING!

Number of items listed this week: 24An ok week. I am noticing a general trend of recently listed items being 85% of my sales. Probably should try sell similar again soon. I haven’t refreshed beyond January of 2022. My daughter is on spring break so not sure it will be a great week for listing.
I’m excited to hear about the new R&J projects. You guys have a great work ethic. We are almost done doing a bathroom and I feel like the cost has gone up so much since we last did a big project. Labor and materials. A friend’s relatives moved from California to Utah and they call everything there “half off” – housing, groceries, gas, etc. When our kids are both fully out of the house it would be nice to downsize but I’d hate to start over with remodeling.
Have a great week everyone.

Renovations are much more expensive these days because of the demand for supplies and workers.
I hear about all the Californians moving to Oregon, Washington State, Montana, Utah, Nevada for cheaper living. The people there say prices are now going up!

I’m getting back into the swing of things, but sales are slow, and I need to do some “sell similar” myself.
I spoke with my neighbor, and I’m going to set up a MaxSold auction to sell off much of his inventory. I just can’t handle it all with my part time job and family in the mix. Given the remodeling work on his new house before he moves in, I think that the auction will be in the June timeframe.

You’ve been incredibly generous with your time on this neigbors stuff. An online auction will still be alot of upfront work. Then arranging pickup will be alot of worse. If you do shipping – ouch.
At some point I’d recommend you just cut bait and let a local estate sales person handle this guys place.

Retro –
I hear you, but I’ve done a MaxSold auction before. It is doable.
The listings don’t require the attention to photography and wording that is needed for eBay.
The auction runs for about 10 days, and then the winners have to to pickup within a 3 or 4 hour window usually on a Saturday or Sunday. There is NO shipping.
His (now deceased) wife would shop and not return items she decided she didn’t want. I have boxes and bags of NWT or NWOT clothing. I also have boxes of hard goods that I can split up between eBay and the auction. I can create different lots of 4 or more pieces and add in furniture he doesn’t want to move, and I think we’d have a decent auction to run.

Doing a big auction for all that stuff makes sense. Selling a couple things as a favor is nice. Expecting to sell a house of low dollar items is a job. You should just connect him to a service that does clean outs.

His items are mostly not low dollar, and he isn’t pushing me to take stuff that isn’t worth selling. Sure, clothes are for the most part, but that is why I want to bundle them up and sell in an auction.
One of his items that I haven’t wanted to post on eBay is a large keyboard, open box but new and unused. It should do well in an auction.
The one auction I did for a friend made about $6k, and she gave me $2k of it. In this one, we’ll split 50/50. It will probably make less than the $6k, but I may make as much.
Yes, I’m doing this for a friend, but he has been very upfront about wanting me to make money. He’s never pushed me to take the low dollar stuff.
I think it’s all good. I’ll still have stuff to list on eBay.

Another slow week of sales, but I just kept listing. The last two auction lots I purchased are keeping me very busy with research and listing. Got some great stuff. About half of this weeks sales were items I just posted and the other half was looong tail.
I posted a rare for me consignment piece. A co-worker of Cecile’s has a rare Steiff mounted lion’s head that we listed. From what I found on the web, these were only produced for the American market and only in 1958. They made them in 4 different animal heads. I’m shooting high since there are none currently listed and from Worthpoint they seem to only show up every few years. Figure I can always lower the price. Here is the listing if you are curious: Vintage 1958 Steiff Lion’s Head Trophy Mount Plaque Mohair | eBay
Even with the slow sales, I’ve been enjoying listing. Some of my recent purchases were cast iron and pressed steel toys from the 1930s and 40s. They can send me down a rabbit hole. Never realized how common reproductions are. At least two of the ones I purchased weren’t original, but the majority seem to be. I’ve found a great Facebook group for them and they’ve been helpful.
