I achieved a rare milestone last week, 30 listings over the course of the week. I hit this number despite not listing anything at all on Friday or Saturday! But I was highly motivated early in the week and had a clear plan for what I wanted to do. I hope I can recapture that magic again this week. But it’s not really magic, is it? It’s about figuring out your own systems and routines, and finding the time and energy in your life to focus specifically on the “listing goals” part of your reselling life.
This can be almost impossible on busy days, or on days where you have other things going on. But if you can find one day where that isn’t the case, you can get some items listed. Make that three or four days, and you can really knock out some listings. Price things right, send out good offers, go through your inventory and things will sell.

Week of June 8 – 14
Total Items in Store: 1352

Cost of Items Sold:
Gross Sales: $1433.003
Net Sales: $945.83
Average price: $25.59

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $12I ran a sale and sent out a coupon to blow out a lot of inventory. It worked pretty well; I was super busy yesterday, which won’t show up until next week’s figures.
Returns happen in spurts. It’s like the whole country gets cranky at the same time and decides to return items because they are feeling sour. I’ll go months without a return, then a whole bunch of them at once. I had 2 more returns today, plus a passive aggressive positive feedback complaining that the item had been modified, (which was disclosed in the listing and the buyer acknowledged prior to purchase).
That, plus an item that USPS misrouted to Hawaii instead of Chicago has left me feeling really negative about eBay lately. The package was a $75 sale and it’s been MIA for a month. The buyer has been very nice, though, so that’s something. Hopefully USPS pays out the claim.
I applied for eBay’s Up and Running Grant for 2025 and turned in my June 6. It would be really nice to get a $10K grant, but I’m not holding my breath.

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $80?
Number of items listed this week: 0During this week I reset my whole store with sell similar. I’ve been able to send about 120 offers, many are 25-33% off but few takers. I was waiting until the offer opportunities dried up to start running a sale again. I like the newish feature where you can bulk sale based on new or used. I’m calling it the “summer of sales” (borrowed from a Youtuber) and just closing my eyes and discounting a lot of older things. I generally have a lot of margin except for some of my new items.
I cleared enough room in the garage to put one car back in. I still have a lot of organizing and framing work to do.
I have a market this weekend – a bit tricky because it’s before and during this parade https://www.swt.org/solstice/2024/parade/index.html. Lots of people come out for it and we are on the parade route, BUT they aren’t going to want to carry stuff back to their car.
I’ve enjoyed the live selling but this might be my last season (ending October). Some of the things about our very high cost of living area that make picking so good make it harder to sell at pop ups. People aren’t as spendy as LA people up here, probably because they can’t afford to. I also have a bit of an issue with few older people showing up at the markets. I don’t really have the right car to travel to LA and sell and might be a little old for that with this heavy art work. The prep really takes away from Ebay but it’s really nice to get out of the house and interact with people.
I’d rather have a booth but the rents are a bit crazytown. I’m talking to some locals about that. I might dip my toe in starting with a bookshelf.
In the meantime, I have a a lot of inventory to list. I’m trying to be really good about staying out of the thrift stores. I’ve kind of lost my appetite a bit for buying larger breakable items so that helps.
