It was a normal steady week for us on eBay. We sold two broken appliances (aka “for parts”) which is always fun. I’m glad to see there’s a desire to f

Week of 2/26 – 3/4:
Total items in Store: 319
Items Sold: 16
Gross Sales: $503.52 (w/o eBay fees, shipping, or taxes)
Cost of Items Sold: $159.30 (including consignment commissions but not the original cost of family castoffs)
Highest Price Sold: $99.91 plus shipping (30″ orange ship’s ring buoy)
Average Sales Price: $31.47 (not incl eBay fees, shipping, or taxes)
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory: $0
Number of new items listed: 3This week of sales shows how things have changed for me in the last couple years. I would previously average fewer sales a week but at a much higher average sales price. Now I have many more lower value smalls. It seems harder all the time to purchase higher value items in my favorite categories cheap enough to make money. I won’t pay $100 for something that will sell for $150 to only make $10 after fees and overhead. It doesn’t help that selling costs have risen so much with sponsored listing fees. The best thing about the smalls though is the profit margins, of course. And the 2 minutes it takes to pack and ship one.
I did have some customer oddness this week. One new eBayer with 0 feedback messaged me that they were interested in an item but wanted to make sure I was legitimate and would I please provide my real full name? I was pondering how to respond (other than with silence, and a swift block) when the item sold to someone else. Problem solved.
I had another message on one of my other items. It was a toy that belonged to me as a child, found in my dad’s house after he passed away a while back. My listing identified it very specifically as to what it was and the year made. The message I received was not specific as to what they were upset about, but it went on about how I was one of the biggest idiots on eBay, or words to that effect. That definitely merited silence and a block.

Gut Sales Report for the week: Sales were slow, but consistent. Nearly identical to last week.
Focus for the week : Working on coding my cross-listing and other projects.
Scavenge of the week: Got a bunch of long sleeve clothes for $5\bag at the thrift store that they were moving out for Spring Clothes.
Thoughts for the week: I also had some “customer oddness” this week.
1. One person told me my price for an item was too low. Ok, it was a Precious Momemnts from 1977. They had one and thought it should sell for more than what I had listed it for. I told them they could list theirs and ask for more.
2. Had a clothing item that someone was interested in buying. But, as I tried to answer their questions about it, I was finding holes and other issues. I told the buyer it had too many issues, so I delisted. But, they insisted that they still wanted to buy it for a discount. So, I relisted and sold it to them for an agreed on price.

Once you’ve put the effort into an item, might as well list it. Even if you list it at cost.
I’ve sold some really crappy clothing items. One was a pair of ugly green pants that were my wife’s. They were a crappy mall brand and had a big bleach stain I didn’t see until after I had created the draft. I went ahead and listed them for $9.99 and they sold fairly quickly.
I’ve sold moth hole ridden pendleton jackets for $10-15. T-shirts with holes, stains, and shoes so worn I have to disclaim they are for looks only and can’t be worn for real activity.
The item has to either be really bad condition or odor, have an abysmal STR, or I catch the issue before I start to do the work of listing for me to toss it. If I catch the issue after I create the draft or start the pictures, it goes live with a lower price.
An example of a recent one:

I was thinking they would return it. But it looks like you have sold things that were in worse condition. I did list out all the flaws. That seems to be good enough based on what you have experienced.

Number of items listed this week: 13Decent week for February and not much listing. Can’t complain. We have construction and some extra life chaos going on. I’m hoping to get back to cranking on listings in the near future. I did catch up on the small bit of RA I did in February but I’m still working on getting through the rummage sale hauls and small haul from my mega-thrifts trip. The piles of death await after that.
Glad things are so great with the coffee shop and your vision has become reality. Yeah! This year seems to be going by so quickly. I can’t believe we are looking at spring break and Easter soon.

Listing 2023 weekly Avg 30Just wasn’t feeling it this week. I planned to get some work done this weekend but a severe wind front came through and knocked trees over on power lines on our street Friday night. Spent the weekend without power.

I had some weirdness this week myself, but some of it was mine. A buyer from Mexico wasn’t able to buy a set of bookends through eBay international. I told him it was the only way I would sell it, so he asked me to cancel. I did, except that I cancelled a different set of bookends by accident (eh, it was late and I was ready to go up to bed). I realized it the next morning and canceled the correct sale. The buyer from Mexico ended up getting his sister in Florida to buy them for him.
I also sold a wool suit that I had bought in 2018. I found that it had moth damage that wasn’t there five years ago and so had to cancel.
It was an OK week given all my mistakes above.

Late to the party again. Have had a lot going on, non-eBay wise.

Net Sales: Ebay $294.17
Total Items Sold 11

Money Spent on New Inventory: $0.00Average Days Listed: 530

New items listed: 11
New Listings Value $620.00A rare week where I had no Etsy sales. Everything is slow but at least eBay picked up a bit from the previous week. Have a new record for longest tail item sold. A vintage wood-handled wrench that I posted 3 months after I started on eBay in 2016. 6.69 years.
Didn’t meet my number or $ goal for listing this week.

Seems like a slowdown all around. The longer you sell on eBay, the longer you’ll be holding onto items. We probably have some items in our inventory that have been listed for 10 years. Doesn’t worry me because there’s no carrying cost + our inventory purchase prices are so low.

Also very late to the party because of non-eBay stuff kicking my butt. Seems to be going around this community right now. Must be contagious. Hope everyone else is taking time for themselves and doing well.
In happier news, a nice week of sales to report here. Running 400 auctions will boost your numbers nicely, but I hit the $1000 benchmark even without the auctions. Thankful again to have built up such a robust trading card inventory during the pandemic. It’s a nice fallback when life gets hectic.
2/26/2023 to 3/4/2023
Total items in store: 410 BIN/BO, 0 auction, 410 total
Items sold: 47 (34 via auction, 10 via best offer, 3 via seller initiated offer, 11 via promoted listings)
Gross sales: $2536.87 (down 18% from one year ago, $1349.28 via auction, $1187.59 via fixed price)
Net sales: $1719.69 (down 23% from one year ago)
Average sales price: $53.98 (down 4% from one year ago)
Highest price sold (net): $145.58— Julius Randle 2014-15 Panini Select tie dye prizm RC #03/25 PSA 9
Julius Randle is one of the best players on the Knicks, who are doing well this year, but last year both he and the team struggled through the basketball season. I picked up a few of his cards then since I figured there was nowhere to go but up, and I’ve been cashing out on them over the last few months.
Lowest price sold (net): $7.98— Taylor Lewan unnumbered autographed rookie card from 2014 Panini Rookies and Stars set
Lewan, a star offensive lineman, was recently released from his longtime team the Tennessee Titans, and it’s an open question if he’ll move to another team because of injuries. I had a few sales of his autographs over the week, and I think all of them shipped to either Tennessee (his pro team) or Michigan (college). Fandom can be very nostalgic. This was an auction sale with a minimum bid of $9.99, it had been listed in my store at $19.99 for quite a while. I don’t list many items at that price point anymore, but it was still profit as I only paid around $2 for the card.
