Gut Sales Report for the week: Very good week for the week of Christmas. Sales right up to and on Christmas were great.
Focus for the week : Still trying to get all my 1800 vintage listings on Etsy. I have only 296 listed on Etsy so far. But, trying to automate that.
Scavenge of the week: Found a Union Made 100% Camel Hair Trench Coat for $5.
Thoughts for the week: Too much is hitting at once. Trying to ship all the sold items. Listing on Etsy. Trying to code my cross-listing. Just one step at a time.

Number of items listed this week: 22Sales were pretty dead right before Christmas but were brisk yesterday and this morning. I didn’t realize today was a postal holiday. I have a lot of stuff to ship by tomorrow and it will be pretty annoying. Grateful for Ebay. I know the really dreadfully slow time is coming but I will be listed more this year during that time so hopefully that will help.
I was hunting RA today and the discounts aren’t really impressive enough for me. Many of my favorites aren’t doing an extra % off but I have had better luck in February and even early March. One store discounted early and I spent about $100 last week, scooping up some returns that landed in my local store and were nicely marked down. Today Goodwill Finds is running a sale as I posted elsewhere so that was my arbitrage.
I also noted that Macy’s has created like an outlet in the top level of their store. I’m under the impression it is supposed to be like a TJ Maxx. Their extra sales discounts don’t apply so I’m not impressed with the pricing or brands. However, I’ll keep an eye out because nobody locally seems to be shopping in there heavily at least for home goods. Happy bargain hunting to those who participate.
@Mark I’m honestly surprised about your Etsy success. I know it has been very slow for some others who tried it. Curious if you are promoting your Ebay listings? Between Ebay having the item specifics and Etsy having the tags (and a higher standard of photos imho) I’m sticking with Ebay but I feel like I need to make deals and give them a bigger cut now.-

Christine,
Part of my Etsy success is that I did it right near Christmas time. I didn’t plan that, it just happened that way. I am sure my STR will drop as 2023 wears on. However, I think I should be able to average at least the $700\month gross that I projected from Etsy after all 1800 listings are cross-listed. At this point I really think it will be much more than $700\month gross, but we will see.
I do promote some of my ebay listings. I have entered a lot of Etsy tags for each item, so maybe that is helping out. My photos are of high quality, so that shouldn’t hurt me.

Mark & ChristineR: I added etsy several years ago, which I mentioned here at the time. I cross posted to Etsy about 900 of my 1,200 listings at that time. Years later still at about that same number.
Running Sales 5-7- or 10 days at a time on both, use promoted listings on Ebay and do a dollar a day advertising on Etsy.
Annual Gross numbers comparison:
My P&L shows for 2021 … Ebay sales=$23,000 and Etsy Sales=$7,000
For 2022 Year end [except for these last few days] Ebay=$11,000 and Etsy $4,000
So with the same type, and amount of inventory and doing the same type, style and length of promotions overall sales are down about 50% this year.
Just an FYI .. Mike in Atl.

Mike,
Your Etsy store is only 75% the size of your ebay store. So, your adjusted ebay sales for this year would be .75 * $11,000 or $8,250. Your Etsy sales were about 50% of that.
That is about what I had originally projected; my Etsy store would have an STR of about 60% of that of my ebay store. So far, my Etsy STR is way higher than my ebay store by a factor of 5-10. That may settle down after the Holidays.
Did you put tags in all of you Etsy listings? I spent time putting tags on every Etsy listing. I am wondering if that is the difference or not.

New items listed: 9An unexpected week to be sure. Sales on Etsy accounted for 1/3 of item sales but 70% of the $ amount. This is the first time that my Etsy sales exceeded my eBay sales (I started posting on Etsy last January). A pair of antique handcuffs led the pack at $295 and all sales were $50 or greater.
eBay sales were all lower dollar with a max at $45. This was one of my lowest weeks on eBay for the year and the lowest pre-Christmas week in 4 years by a large margin.
I had one rare return request. I didn’t notice a crack in the Blenko pitcher I sold last week. I was hidden in the seam between the handle and the body of the pitcher. I might have been able to negotiate a discount with the buyer, but as I rarely get returns I decided to just eat it. It still displays nicely and the buyer gave me a nice review.
