Its not signed and no markings, but the guy we were bidding against thought it was really valuable. Maybe he was crazy.

It’s got a bit of a Ingrid Atterberg for Upsala Ekeby vibe, and she definitely did a similar form, but I think those pieces are usually clearly marked.

unless this one had a sticker that came off, i’m thinking it’s just a cool vase.

I have no idea. But it looks like a dragon egg to me. ๐

Ryanne, there are also some Bitossi vases that look somewhat similar. Aldo Londi did vases in that shape, and I found some pieces that are a smooth black with gold, but I didn’t find anything exactly the same.

I really want to find some Bitossi. If I get out from under my death piles I hope to find some at estate sales. Saw the real deal in Palm Springs. So awesome. That is a cool vase btw. Looks like West Elms style.

I have found a few Bitossi pieces in the wild — a pair of chippy candlesticks that didn’t go for much and a tiny little vase that wasn’t worth a ton either.
My biggest Italian pottery fail, though, was a piece signed “Gambone.” I thought it was a small piece by Guido Gambone but it turns out to have been a much more scarce piece by Bruno — I thought I knew what I had, and I vastly undersold myself. Sigh! Always do the research, even when you think you know!

Hi Ryanne
I canโt help you with this particular item, but when I have a guess on the possible origin of something (like those that were mentioned here – Bitossi, Swedish pottery, …) and it’s something that might be valuable if I can find out the maker, brand, designer, whatever, I turn to facebook themed groups that are amazing at identifying just about anything in their range of interest โ like: Finnish glass lovers, Mid century Bitossi and other Italian pottery, West German Pottery and so on.
As most of these people tend to know a lot not only on their stuf (say Italian Pottery) but also other kinds of things, they will at least point you in the right direction.
I have had much success doing that, but it can be a bit time consuming. However, as I like to learn about objects, design, etc and selling is also a hobby (even if a profitable one), that just adds to my fondness of the overall process of selling online
