So today somebody made me an offer on an item, I was fine with the price so I accepted, and they paid. Right after they paid I got the following email from ebay (at end of message):
I’m trying to figure out if this is legit. If I look at sales from the app, I can’t click on the sold listing – it says it’s been removed. If I go through the web browser on a computer, I can purchase a shipping label and it looks like a regular transaction. My question is, should I ship it or what should I do here? I’ve never had this happen before.
Thanks
Here is the message from eBay about this sale:
”
Hello gfd_622,
We had to cancel bids for the buyer, mulk22, because they aren’t registered on eBay:

– Verify any payments you’ve been notified of by logging into your payment account (or other online payment service).
– If the buyer requests a refund or additional payments, don’t send any money without contacting eBay first.

So you purchased an item from a buyer. Then eBay cancelled the sale and removed the buyer from eBay. Sounds like its just eBay’s Fraud Department doing its job.
If the price was really good, it was probably just a scam.

No, I was selling something, The guy made an offer, I accepted, and he paid right away. And once he paid they removed the item. It is gone from the system. I can’t relist or do anything with it. He paid – I have money in my PayPal account – and they are telling me not to ship it. I can print a shipping label if I go from a browser (not the app). It’s odd

Huh. It says “We had to cancel bids for the buyer, mulk22, because they aren’t registered on eBay”.
–Is this buyer still on eBay?It is weird, but we wouldn’t ship the item if eBay says not to ship it. Maybe this buyer has been flagged for using a phony bank account or stolen credit card. That payment might not eventually go through.
eBay tells you exactly what to do:
We recommend you take the following actions if this buyer won the item:
– If you haven’t received payment, don’t complete the sale or send the item to the buyer.
– Don’t communicate with the buyer directly.
– Verify any payments you’ve been notified of by logging into your payment account (or other online payment service).
– If the buyer requests a refund or additional payments, don’t send any money without contacting eBay first.
– If you’ve already sent the item, try contacting the shipping carrier to find out if you can stop shipment. -

Variations on this have happened to me, and it’s not unusual. No, you should not ship it. If the buyer requests a refund or additional payments, don’t send any money without contacting eBay first to find out what you should do.

Thanks for the info. I’ve done that, contacted eBay, and it is what it is. I just thought it seemed odd, especially since I was paid. Time will tell if that payment was legit or not. Oddly enough, I just got this follow-up email from eBay. All this really does is add to the confusion – but I still will not ship to the original buyer. But at least now I can relist without having to do research and take new pics.

I am still a little worried that this will go against me as it’s still in my “awaiting shipment” section of my account. They claim it won’t and that I can just archive it, but I just don’t know. Again, time will tell I guess

I wouldn’t be worried. Just follow eBay’s suggestions.
What likely happened was this buyer used a stolen credit card number to buy items on eBay (including yours). eBay’s Fraud Dept was able to catch it before you shipped.

I’ve had this happen. Someone kept buying the same item (like a 5 dollar item), payment went through, then ebay said don’t ship it. The person “bought” the item 5 times. More annoying than anything else.

I had the exact same email from eBay about 10 days ago. Only I received it AFTER I shipped the item.
How is eBay identifying these buyers as suspicious? What’s the trigger? It just seems off; it’s happening so often just lately. I’ve noticed several folks in another group saying they’ve had it too.
