Hi, I’m Sonia in New England. I had a high-paying job in silicon valley for many years, and during that time I was super stressed out all the time. But I kept going. Finally my body had enough of that and I developed chronic fatigue syndrome and had to stop working – this was a few years ago. I moved back to the east coast to a rural area because of lower housing cost, and to be away from noise & air pollution. I have enjoyed scavenging and reselling on ebay since I started a year ago to earn a few extra bucks. The flexibility is great for me, b/c many days I don’t have the energy to do anything at all. I set my handling time to 3 days (thanks for the suggestions RetroTrWV!) and it works great. Over the past year I have worked up to approximately 250 items in my store, and that’s pretty much my max so I aim to keep it that size and keep trying to increase profit per item.
I scavenge at estate and yard sales, thrift shops & rummage sales. I hope to check out auctions sometime soon. Except for local rummage sales and a thrift shop open only in the summer, I have to drive long distances to scavenge. Typically about an hour in each direction.
I love Scavenger Life for a number of reasons:
– I’ve learned so much here that has helped me improve my little business
– it’s great to be part of a work community even as I do my work alone
– SL promotes and re-inforces attitudes of positivity, abundance, minimal-ness/frugality that I strongly agree with and want to cultivate in myself. -
Living in a rural area, we also often drive up to 90 miles to scavenge, but it’s worth not having to live in the traffic madness!
