I know I should be focusing on listing, but just wondering….

Up through Thanksgiving, sales were pretty normal. I actually had 6 sales on Thanksgiving, which is awesome. Friday and Today have been very slow with one sale each (at least so far).
I think that people actually get to the stores on Black Friday and the following weekend. I remember this happening last year. I don’t think the so called “Cyber Monday” boosted my sales last year either, so I’m not expecting anything spectacular.

Agreeing with Sharyn…sales were normal up to Thanksgiving and now just a trickle (one sale a day). So instead of packing/shipping like crazy, I’m listing like crazy. I’m using this time to catch my breath and work on some piles of inventory (and while posting this comment, I just had a sale -it’s working!).

This is where I’ll point to one of our recent podcasts:
https://www.scavengerlife.com/2017/11/scavenger-life-episode-334-holidays-just-another-day.htmlFor us, sales have been decent, but we always remember that Holidays are just another day since we dont really sell obvious holiday or gift stuff. Other scavengers around here seem to actually do really well at this time. I think it all depends on what you sell.

There’s no question people are buying…but we’re not selling ebay Daily Deals, some of which are flying off the shelves. I strongly agree with Jay—-this time of year, a lot depends on what you sell. Last year, we had stocked up (retail arbitrage) on Aerogardens….which sat for months until closer to Christmas, and then became a great steady seller…I’m sure many people were buying them as gifts. This year, we don’t have any RA type stuff, and our sales are more hit or miss. We’re just going to keep on listing, and if I luck into a good retail arbitrage item somewhere, great. If not, we just keep listing LOL I’m also trying running some sales, and dipping my toe into Social Media waters. But for the most part, it’s just the rinse and repeat of trash elf life…..

Yes, if you happen to be selling flat screen Tv’s, then I bet business is great.

LOL! Yep, it isn’t that people aren’t buying. It’s WHAT they are buying this time of year. Only a small percentage will look at my stuff and say “Gee, that would be a swell gift for Bob!”

Similar experience for me too.

Ditto. Glad to hear I’m not the only one.

Thought I had finished up the winter clothing, but just found another box of snow boots! Arrrggg!
But, they are selling.
Sales are about 20% slower than I expected, but OK. I also am listing more. -

My sales are the same as they have been for years. I average one item per day and I have about 350 things listed most of the time. New things sit forever, old stuff sells. I try to avoid selling anything new, but I do run into some RA deals that I cannot resist sometimes.

Sales seem to be completely dead most days, but Saturday was a very good day for me. I encourage people to check out using social media sharing groups. I pin both my new RA and unique vintage items on a couple of Facebook groups via Pinterest. It’s free and I really feel like it makes a difference even though I spend very little time doing it each morning. I’m hopeful it might get me some hits this Cyber Monday.

ChristineR, I’ve just started doing that, in a very small way, and so far it looks like I’ve probably added some views to a few things, but I don’t think any sales have resulted from it (no way to know for sure). What groups are you using? I’ve been using a couple ebay seller type groups, but wonder if I should be using category specific type groups?

I belong to International League of Thrifters – new items ok – Vintage Ebay and Etsy Sellers, and Got Vintage Shops Dealer Support Group. There are many others I’m sure. I always pin the admins out of courtesy, the 2 required links, and then find people who are regular and are likely to have deep followings on Pinterest and pin their items in hopes they reciprocate. I can’t prove this helps but Ebay shows my traffic goes up from outside sources on the graph and I sell to people with 0 feedback often. Also, I have sold a few items on the same day I posted in the groups pinterest parties. So, I do know it works to some degree. If people aren’t thinking to go to Ebay, this is another way to get them in there. Good for my RA in countries that don’t have the retailer with a presence there.

My sales are on average – nothing really different that I’ve noticed.
Last year I saw a small spike at the beginning of December until about a week before Xmas.

Ours have still been strong, and some of our best weeks of the year.
Veronica sells a lot of Christmas & Holiday items, so that definitely helps. But she also sells collectibles that we could see people sending as gifts.
For me, I start seeing jackets, coats, suits, dress pants, flannel shirts, sweaters all increase. Makes sense this time of year.
It all just depends on what you are selling.

Thanks Christine— I do think with eBay’s emphasis on New stuff, those of us selling used and vintage definitely need to at least consider doing marketing beyond eBay. I like the List it and Forget it idea, but I’m not averse to trying to give sales a little nudge LOL

I’ve been too busy to list much this past week, but sales have remained consistent. I normally sell 5-10 items per day. This past week, I have been averaging 8-9 sales per day. If I had been listing daily, sales would’ve easily been 10+ per day.
Since I haven’t been able to list much, I’ve been running sales for the past week. The sales I normally run are at 5%. This past week, I’ve been running them at 10% and 15%. This has helped blow out a ton of old inventory.

Maybe it is because almost everything I have is antique or vintage but sales do ZERO for me, still not selling anything on ebay, all the action is on Etsy.

I hear you. I mainly have vintage listed as well on the main ebay store I have. Ephemera, postcards, books, not anything essential.
I drift between 250-300 watchers per day for all items on an inventory of a little over 8,000 items. I figured that some were waiting for prices to lower, so I ran a sale of 10% during Black Friday week. This resulted in an initial rush of sales, but it slowed down during the last day of the sale.
On Sunday, I started another sale of 15% that is ending today. This resulted in sales of really stagnant inventory in my store, including items I completely forgot I had.
I think it all really comes down to quantity. Something is bound to interest someone, as ling as it’s listed. If it’s borderline interesting and priced, it will catch someone’s attention at a good price.
