I didn’t see this particular topic on forum (point me in the right direction if it is, please point me in right direction).
Right now, we sell furniture, clothing, and home goods.
I use USPS to ship anything under 108″(length and girth)
over this size or 70 pounds I only do local pickup.
I am constantly bombarded with questions asking us to ship furniture. I let customers know we don’t ship furniture and they are welcome to use a third party to ship (quite a few have used uship.com or ups freight) but it is very expensive and buyers often get angry at the cost even though I warn them ahead of time that it can be astronomical.
My questions are:
1) what do you use to ship items over the 108″ per usps?2) how do you handle customer questions?
3) is there something other than uship.com for third party shipping?

Your answer is the one we give. Uship.com is the cheapest option in most cases. https://plycongroup.com/ is another white glove service.
The other option is for you to learn how to ship FedEx Freight.

This means you wrap it and often mount furniture on a pallet, then take it to the special regional Fedex shipping center.Some sellers ship certain sized furniture on Greyhound:

We did this once. It’s a 3 hours round trip drive to the closest location.-
Oh this is great information, I am going to check out plycon now.
I checked out fedex freight and have used greyhound (even though there is one near me) and no thank you! It was a nightmare to box and wrap.
I appreciate the information because I often feel like I am missing something and there is a better way to do it.
I have heard you talk about shipping rugs . . . what is the method you use for that? I have mine as local pickup at this point because of the size. But it seems like you have a way to do it?-
The rugs we sell can be folded small enough to wrap and ship normal. They’re heavy, but its doable. Just wrap in heavy black garbage bags and tape like crazy.
Some sellers who specialize in furniture and big items do often provide Free Shipping or Flat Rate. Then they have a system where they deal with shipping and build that into the price. We dont sell enough big items to build that system.

Check and see if there are any regional shipping services, we have one called Speedy Delivery which will take on big cumbersome items very reasonably, they’re limited in their reach but it’s better than local pick up.
They have a small fleet of straight trucks and vans. -
When I list large items I list them local pickup and put in description that buyer can arrange their own shipping service if desired.
My philosophy is this – if the buyer can’t afford shipping costs then they can’t afford my item. The right buyer won’t bat an eye at shipping cost. Don’t sweat the cheap buyers – they ain’t worth your time.
