So I recently had a VERY needy buyer but instead of blocking him out of the gate I put up with him and made a successful sale without issue. But yeah… the guy messaged me multiple times a day almost every day until the item arrived *eye roll*. I was pretty hungry to sell the item as it had been sitting for a while. Anyhoo… Now I have all these notifications telling me to respond to his messages on a non-active item and I can’t seem to figure out how to mark them as answered. I know on an active item you can mark questions as answered but it seems on a sold item there’s no option to do so. How can I get around this? Does anyone know?

Huh, can’t you just make the messages as “read”? Is eBay sending you alerts to answer these questions?
I don’t think we’ve ever had this happen?

I’ve honestly never seen this before either and been selling off and on for 10 years. Are links allowed? I can post screenshots. Basically there’s big picture previews of the buyer’s messages to me at the top of my seller-hub page with a button next to them that says “reply” but because it’s no longer an active item I have to find it under “sold items” but when I click under “view more actions” there’s no option to mark questions as answered even though the listing is flagged as awaiting a response. It’s so bizarre. I don’t want to write the buyer again in fear he’ll write back something like “ok” or “thanks” cause then it will just start the cycle over again.
(Edit: and yes, the very first thing I tried doing was going into my messages selecting all and marking everything as read. That was a no go *sad face* )

Yep, you can link to the screenshot. Would be helpful.
Maybe this is a new thing eBay is doing? If so, they need to make a way to say “These messages dont need to be answered”. I know we get messages from buyers that are non-questions.

Update: So I called support and they went through the same motions I did and pretty much told me to just respond to the buyer’s messages. I think I’m just going to wait 90 days for them to hopefully go away LOL. The rep said there was no way for them to remove the notifications which I hardly believe but I don’t know if I feel like calling back at this point.

Did you already try going to messages (hover over my ebay and then go down to messages) and then click on From Members on the left side? Once there, you will see buttons on top one of which is delete.

AdventureE: deleting the messages doesn’t work. I tried that. They still appear as awaiting a reply. Take a look at the screenshots if you’re confused.
sonia: When I look at what page I’m actually on it looks like I’m on the eBay selling overview, just the new view, not the classic view. So I may not be on the actual seller hub per se… The new layout can be so confusing. Take a look at the screenshots: https://imgur.com/gallery/HAPPm

weird. I don’t see anything called “Selling To-dos” on my seller hub. I just have a “Tasks” box in the upper left that shows how many orders I have to ship and how many messages are not yet answered. Do you have these messages counted the “Tasks” box as well?

Tech_Ninjas, I have the same problem! I’ve got 2 messages from buyers that did NOT buy the item, but there’s no “mark as answered” button either. It’s been driving me nuts, but I’ve decided to do the same thing as you and just wait out the 90 days. Dunno if that will work for me either, as they didn’t buy the thing.

I know right? it’s the weirdest glitch ever.
So update: eBay sent me a survey about my “experience” with customer service. I wrote out a detailed explanation of the issue I was having and that the customer service rep didn’t help me at all. That her resolution to simply message the buyer was absurd. She did not offer to escalate my issue to tech support and basically, I was PO’ed. Magically, the message notifications disappeared a couple days later.
Case closed I guess.
