Hi fellow Etsy nerds…:) I have two stores on Etsy, one is a vintage store and one is a digital products store so I have all the problems from shipping to corrupt files…HA!
- Glamorously Vintage – Vintage
- Paperly People – Digital
I also have an Ebay (which is how I found Ryann and Jay).
I write A LOT about Etsy SEO which I think is super important… and also about product photography.
I would love to see all your stores! Please make sure to post them so we can check out what you are up to…:)

Favorited all y’all ’cause I love your stuff! I have just started to list more stuff on etsy (i’ve been buying forever) and i’ve really seen a difference. I only have a bit over 100 things but I seem to sell more high-end stuff there consistently. And it’s less expensive, for sure.
I would LOVE to read your photography notes Ms. Paperly! I have a small setup in my mudroom with 2 100w cfl lights (cowboy set up) but i’m having a bear of a time lighting larger areas for modeled clothes. Perhaps I need to get more lights… It’s such a small space I have been dreading that.

Hi Ad!!! LOVE your shop owner picture on the Vintage Delirium…:) Here are the product photography pic posts http://marketingartfully.com/category/product-photography/
I find that I can sell on Etsy for about 40% more than I can on Ebay. I have sold WAY more on Etsy than Ebay, but that may be because I like SEO and writing descriptions..:)

Thanks for the favorites Paperly!
And SUPER thanks for the photography posts!I was just doing what you suggested by going to Marmalead and going through my etsy listings and putting the item first in the title and tweaking my tags. I haven’t gotten that far (to lesson 4) on Marmalead so hopefully that will help with writing tags because I am crap at that! Thanks for that suggestion, btw. That may be the most helpful thing I’ve ever read. 🙂
I am scared that this new forum may be too fun. I’ve got some death piles, ya know. And more will become death piles because I’ll be on the forum all the damn time. 🙂

Ad I am butt in chair listing today!!! I have to go to Michaels to get the hubs some picture frames (oh darn) and then take my son to practice but then back in chair!…:)
I have NO idea how people do Etsy without the Marmy-lead… I use it on my Ebay listings to help with words for writing descriptions!!!

I have about 129 items up in my Etsy shop, and about 450 in my eBay store. I do so enjoy selling vintage items on the Etsy platform. I look forward to reading some of your articles, Paperly! I want to improve my business!

Hi Jbrownfield! Love you shop! Favorited!
I wish I could afford to have you send those fireking mugs to my pal in the UK. She LOVES fireking but even when I send ONE cup to her it’s like $20… You have great stuff! -

Also, how did you get your location on your profile? I looked on my profile and don’t see a spot. -

adnauseam, Click on your user name under your avatar. It will bring up your profile page. At the bottom on the left, click on “edit”. That should take you to the right place.

Hopefully I linked right. I’m not too savvy on message boards these days.
I don’t have much on Etsy right now at all and sales have been slim to none. I still get a favorite or two each day. I am also going to check out your articles. I could definitely use some inspiration.

Hi Winged! Your stuff is super is cute! I wrote a post about how many items to have (non-scientific data!) I know that having more items helps vintage peeps like us show up in more searches which leads to more views, and then more sales! http://marketingartfully.com/2015/10/14/how-many-items-should-you-have-in-your-etsy-store/

Thanks! I read the article, very interesting! I’ll give it some thought. Maybe I will cross-post some items from ebay. 🙂 I’m going to be reading more of your info. Thanks, again!

Hello All – I have been selling vintage on Etsy for about a year and a half, and I just opened an eBay shop (inspired by listening to Scavenger Life podcasts!). Love all the great vintage items I’m seeing as I browse through others’ shops! (In the process of changing my web site and Etsy shop name to FindzShop to match eBay store).

Ohhh cute stuff! I feel like vintage sellers on Etsy have a huge advantage!!! We are not compteting against a million of the same sellers because people are looking for weird and unique things (unlike the jewelry people who are all competing with each other!!)

Thanks, Tara! I love your shop as well. I like Etsy but am seeing some advantages to eBay as I get started, like an easier listing process and better seller interface. My Etsy shop had been doing well with increasing sales but lately it’s very slow and I’m not sure why. Thus my foray into eBay. Will see how it goes!

That is definitely the way to go! When my Etsy vintage shop is slow, I am still selling on Ebay or my Etsy digital shop…:) Diversification makes it all smooth out more!!! AND it is slowing down for everyone!! Summer is coming when we have to work harder and “stock up” for the rest of the year!!

Hello fellow etsy sellers!
New to the forum and based in Leeds, UK.
I’ve been selling vintage on Etsy for a couple of years, ramping it up in the last 6 months. Sales are steadily increasing as we list more stuff (currently at 583 items).
http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/DigVintageStuff
I also sell different stuff (non vintage or more specialist ‘collectable’) on a personal Ebay account (digvintagestuff).
About half of my Etsy sales are to US customers – despite high shipping costs.
I love selling on Etsy and would like to grow my shop to 1000+ listings by Christmas.

Hey Lesley! That is so fun… I sell about 25% of my things overseas from the US. I LOVE that we are all shipping things around the world…:) I am working on getting my listings up too… have 462 right now but a bunch that I can list!!!

Hello,
Was wondering how many etsy sellers listen to these guys. Its all the same eBay or etsy really, especially for vintage. I keep thinking about cross listing too but I keep finding forum people say its against eBay rules but never show the actual policy. Its a ton of work anyway. Maybe if I got a helper, it would be possible. Just started doing clothes after years of selling home decor, (i know i did that backwards). Anyway, swimming in death piles, uuggghhhh so listing now and saw the post.
Anyway, my shop

I recommend Jay and Ryanne to my Etsy vintage peeps because most of the theory is the same (the shipping, support and other stuff is interesting too, but maybe not all that relevant).
I don’t cross list. I put my “good” stuff on Etsy where I get higher margins and my newer and “thrift store” things on Ebay.
I SOOOO don’t want to have to remember to delete things when they sell on one site or another (my goal is to make my life easier!)
What you could do is figure out which things would sell for higher on Ebay because of the search capabilities (for example, if you have a Metallica Concert Tshirt from 1999 you might have WAY more chance of selling that for a higher price on Ebay than Etsy… larger audience, they can save searches, better email system).
Hope that helps!
Tara

Thanks for the info Tara, after reading some of your comments I decided to go ahead and try a few items on Etsy. I figured I will stick with my nicer items, maybe those vintage items that have a lot of watchers. Fingers crossed!

YAY! Glad I peer pressured you into it…:)
-
11/15/2017 at 2:37 pm #25675
I do cross list some things but basically my nicer things and secondly my cheaper things go on etsy–the reason on both is the cheaper fees on etsy, stuff that I get in box lots that won’t fetch much money goes on etsy, ebay is just too darn expensive to list things for $5 or $10 on. Ebay is good for used clothing and some niche items, but etsy has become my main platform and I am almost at 900 sales there (signed up in 2015 but didn’t really make a push on it until 2016.)

Dang OMFUG you are killing it…:) I had been listing a bunch on Ebay but at the lower prices it just wasn’t making me any money! Can do so much better on Etsy that I have stopped listing on Ebay until I get below 250 and will just list things that need special buyers (OR MEN…:)

It’s interesting because I’m doing the exact opposite! I had sold only on Etsy for a year and a half. I did ok but the volume just wasn’t there. I decided to try eBay and am now transferring over all my Etsy listings. I like some things about Etsy — the lack of haggling and (usually) nice customers. However, there are so many more potential customers on eBay. I decided to take Jay and Ryanne’s advice and just list a lot of stuff on Buy now/Make Offer. I’m only up to about 700 items but I’m already doing significantly better than on Etsy, despite the higher fees. Plus I find eBay’s platform much easier to use. That’s not to say that Etsy can’t work; I just decided to focus all my efforts in one place.
Etsy seems to be making improvements though so I’m interested to hear how others do going forward.
