So my wife and I have decided that we need to sell off all of our inventory and quit selling on eBay. This has been a really difficult decision for us but for now I think it is the right thing to do. That being said, does anyone have any advice on how to go about selling all this stuff? We thought maybe yard sales but it is the middle of winter and I think it will take a long time to get it all sold with yard sales (we have over 1500 items). Any help/advice would be appreciated. We are located just south of Washington DC if it makes a difference.
Thanks.

stalix,
You are somewhat near (I think about a 1.5 hour drive) Jay and Ryanne. Maybe you can work out a deal with them?

If you send us a link to your store, we can see if we’d be interested in buying everything.
thescavengerlife@gmail.comOr try posting on Craigslist. Obviously selling everything for one money will not make you as much but will get it all gone quickly.
Can you share why you’re getting out of the business?

I’ll send you a link here shortly. Long story short there are a lot of contributing factors. We are renting and basically move every year or less so trying to move all our inventory has been difficult in the past and we are over it (it takes 2 trips with the uhaul and we are planning to move cross country next so 2 trips isn’t really in the cards). We just had a new baby in February and we really don’t have the time or energy for it anymore. We will probably start over if we ever buy a house but for right now, it just isn’t working for us.

Maybe send it to the local auction house?

Depending on what you have, an estate sale limited to a couple rooms may make sense. I was at an estate sale here in Denver where the collection was from one of our own. He sold everything himself with a friend (didn’t hire anyone) and virtually everything was gone in about 1 hour.

I’ve always wondered if there is a way to sell your store along with your ebay id…transferring it to another person. I know I heard a youtuber say they sold their etsy store.
Could you and the buyer open a joint checking account with debit card and assign it to your ebay account. Sell a few things using the joint account. Change the address on your ebay account and then remove yourself from the equation? I really have no idea…it was one of those late night, I can’t sleep and my mind won’t stop working thoughts:)

Cheryl,
I found this article on the web about this topic:
https://www.socalinternetlawyer.com/can-buy-sell-ebay-store/
It appears that you need to get ebay’s permission if you are going to transfer the store and feedback ratings, which makes sense. If you don’t get ebay’s permission, you run the risk of getting shut down at some point in the future.

interesting Mark! Thanks for linking to the article. So it seems we can sell a store with ebay’s written permission. Good to know. Now, I’ll have to find something else to ponder the next time I can’t sleep:)

another way to do it would be through InkFrog. that’s how we transferred our 2nd store to our main store. you’d just have to get permission from the store your buying to sync to the store you’re going to sell on and sync it up.

Now you’ve got me interested Ryanne. When I first read this post, I was just thinking that all this would really do is save me from going shopping for a while, but transferring listings makes a lot of sense. How much are you asking for everything Stalix?

stalix, can you email me a link to your store? I sell mostly on Poshmark and would be interested to look at your inventory and see if there is anything I could buy for my store. Email is briaswaringam@gmail.com

@Stalix, I’m interested as well, but likely couldn’t do a full buyout due to space limitations. Would still love to know details. You can message me at eecari27@ gmail.com

Hi everyone, sorry it took me so long to respond, the notification emails were getting caught in my spam filter so I didn’t think anyone had replied to the post! I honestly didn’t think anyone here would be interested in a buyout so I didn’t post the link to the store, but here it is for anyone interested: https://www.ebay.com/str/rigbysregalresale
We currently have a little over 1300 items listed for sale and everything is 50% off to try to move as much inventory as we can. Just for clarity, I’m not looking to sell the eBay account, just the inventory. If there is an easy way to transfer the listings and photos, I would be open to that assuming that it wouldn’t present any security concerns for me.
By my accounting, I have spent approximately 5,500 in inventory and several hundred in storage including shelving, etc. I would like to at least get my money back so I’d like to see around $6,000 but I’m open to negotiation. If you are interested we can discuss. You can email me at stalix53@gmail.com.
Thank you everyone!

And if anyone is interested, I think that if I can’t find someone to buy out the store inventory, I’ll plan a large “yard” sale in the garage and bottom floor of my home as soon as we get a little nice weather. Thank you all for the suggestions and help!

I sent an email to you on the 14th, but I haven’t heard back from you. Did you get me email? Do you need me to send it again?

Mark,
I sent a reply but the email came from an email address for a “Julie”. I sent the reply on Jan 15th at about 7:15 am. Maybe you were logged into the wrong email address when you contacted me? If so, please shoot me another email and I’ll send you the info you were looking for.
Thanks,
