Late August and early September is a good time to find some deals. I’m going to put mine in a later post since the forum has been swallowing my posts for the last half hour.
What did you find this week?

Send an email to Ryanne & Jay at TheScavengerLife@gmail.com to get your access fixed.
I shouldn’t be scavenging right now; I have so little space, and I’ve promised my family to make room in the basement for a workout area, but I can’t help myself.
There is a Maxsold auction in Cranbury, NJ that has lots of baseball cards that look totally worthless (1980s). However, I see some sports memorabilia that you might be interested in (college & professional) plus maybe football cards (1980s, but maybe more interesting than baseball?).
Just thought I’d mention it. I’m more interested in the household stuff that might go for really good prices. I might have a conflict during the pickup time, so not sure whether I will bid or not.

The forum seems to fix its access issues if I just wait a day or two and do a couple captchas the next time I log in, but if it happens again I’ll definitely send them an email.
I appreciate the heads up on the Maxsold auction. None of it struck me as worth the trip, as it all looked relatively high production numbers / low value for me, but it’s interesting to see that stuff out in the wild, so to speak. I’ve been checking Maxsold auctions every so often since I signed up for them a few months back. Some of the auctions have some really interesting items. Others seem more like an online yard sale, like there is one guy in my town who does a yard sale like every few weeks. One of these days, maybe I will go talk to him and find out his deal. I’m always curious about people who sell like that. But I would bet that he’s not really selling much of anything at all.

Yes, I realized that there wasn’t too much exciting there. I was surprised at some of the prices they did get, although, they had some unopened sets. Hopefully, they were just interested collectors.
I did buy a few lots of household stuff and art. I got some very good deals, and the house was beautiful.

I only had 90 minutes for yard sales Saturday, but it was quite an eventful 90 minutes. I wish I could have finished up my route as the weather was amazing and there were lots of great sales!
The highlights:
A Croscill King comforter set. Normally I don’t buy this kind of thing, but it was a beautiful tapestry style comforter. I did a search on the brand name and was pleased with the results. I have the listing created for $300!. I paid $20. I want to get this listed IMMEDIATELY and then sealed in a vacuum bag ready for shipping. It is really bulky/heavy.
A real nice new in box drone for $100. I’m half tempted to keep it just for fun. It’ll sell quick for $250-300.
Here’s a comp: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314905171602
A set of 4 speakers I picked up for $20 that are worth $80 each and a great STR.
Cobra Sound Tracker Model 75 WX ST MIC W/ AC-701
I picked this really cool looking CB mic for $5 as I just had a good feeling about it. I also got a CB radio that I haven’t looked into yet. The CObra mic also has this remote box with it that increases the value. I paid $5 and have it ready for photos for $90.
I got a Nikon point/shoot digital camera for my kids to take ebay photos for $10. After testing it, the results are kinda ‘meh. I figured it was a $30-50 camera but I looked it up to find it’s a $150 high STR camera! I guess I’ll need to just sell it then. You really can’t beat taking photos with a cell phone. Maybe I’ll use this sale to fund getting an iphone 11 to use for the camera.

I bought two Midcentury paintings today at the flea market for $25. One is by Ruby Civish and one by Ann Bradley. There is a famous Ann Bradley but the signature is different unfortunately. I found listings for Ruby earlier and can’t find them now. However, they are nice pieces and I should do ok.

I picked up a framed signed etching by Graham Clarke for £2 because I vaguely recognised his name. An artist from Kent, Garden of England, he produces “humourous” art for the middle classes, retailing at £175 unframed to £325 for a framed print The one I bought must be from his early period, 1980s, there’s no people in it .
He charges £3 for a blank greetings card, so I’m on a winner so far.

There are two Amazon reviews for Clarke’s W. Shakespeare’s Actual Nottebook — the low review says “Not nearly as funny as the author thinks it is” and the high review suggests “a refreshing take on Shakespeare.”
Who to believe? Zut alors!

Just been clicking on the reviewer’s names- you get to see what else they’ve reviewed. It’s like looking in other people’s shopping carts at the supermarket. Mr. Not Nearly likes fiction about card players, with philosophical undertones. Five stars for Victor Mollo. Mrs. Hilarious If You Like Shakespeare has small feet- the slippers were too big. One star for Pavers.
