Place your bets on whether or not this 2015 Belmont Stakes betting slip signed by jockey Victor Espinoza, who rode the winning horse American Pharoah, will make me some money. I picked up four of these at about $4 each, so it will only take one sale for me to get in the black. Victor Espinoza autographs have a pretty nice Terapeak history, but I can’t find much of anything in Terapeak for signed betting slips. I have a hunch I will do well with these.
The seller that I bought the betting slips from combines shipping on large items for $14.95 total, so I can get very bid happy when they have a lot of auctions with the magic $14.95 shipping charge. Particularly since that high shipping price will scare away bidders on sub $20 items. But it works out great for someone like me who buys in volume. This week, I also added this Wesley Walker signed Jets jersey for $15, this Lukas Reichel signed Germany hockey puck for $7 and this 16×20 signed Quinton Byfield Great White North photo for $3 as well as a few other odds and ends (signed golf scorecards, a signed college jersey of Clayton Thorsen, from Northwestern football) for a few bucks each. Some of this stuff might be longtail, but there is plenty of profit to be made when the buy-in prices are this low.
I’ve been really enjoying the auctions of another seller I buy from every week, since they’ve been trickling in auctions of a nice collection of vintage Portland Beavers minor league baseball memorabilia. Portland Beavers items have a strong Terapeak history, something I didn’t know a few weeks ago. My favorite from this week was this 1965 team program with a number of autographs for about $8. Like the other team photographs and magazines and autographs I’ve bought, these might be very long-tail or they might all end up in one flat rate box full of Beavers merch. This is definitely a Q3/Q4 project, like my classical music haul was last year. It is a real privilege to purchase pieces of what was once someone’s collection, research them and educate myself on what is valuable and collectible and why, and prepare the items for listing so they can end up in someone else’s collection in the best condition possible. It is a privilege and an honor.
My prized jewel this week was this game used Denver Broncos coin from the coin toss for $25. The title on the original listing was not great, which is the game you play if you choose to sell your oddball items through a consignor. There is one Terapeak sale of a game used NFL coin toss coin for $200 and a coin from the 2012 Lions-Vikings matchup currently on the NFL auction website with bids over $200 and 8 days left for bids. I can’t make heads or tails of what the price should be on mine, so I might well go with a big high number and see what happens. Even $150 would be a tremendous profit. Maybe I’ll become a coin guy next.
What did you find this week?

I had quite a few awesome scavenges this week.
At one yard sale I found a bunch of ps2/ps3 games among some DVD’s. 5 for $1. They were dirty and not in great shape, but there were some winners in there. I have the listings all drafted and will make about $225.
when I went to pay I asked if they had any other video game stuff like nintendos, handhelds, etc.The lady brought out a bag with an NES, and 12 snes/nes games for $20. The power of the ask wins again. I’ve cleaned all these up and just need to replace batteries in a few of them to maximize value. Selling as cleaned, tested, and battery replacement lets me ask a premium price.
At another sale I bought a bunch of authentic coach and fossil purses for $50. Nothing crazy, but will net about $250.
then on a goodwill run I got a few big ticket items that sell for $100+:
a new in box grillbot.
a pair of car headrest dvd systems
A cuisinart stand mixera vintage RCA Victor 45 desktop record player.
a pair of $60 cleats.I didn’t want big things but I just couldn’t say no.
