I didn’t exactly scavenge this Taylor Swift VIP tour box set last week, but I finally got it photographed and listed, so let’s talk about it.
I found the box set in a Philadelphia thrift store shortly after I moved down to this area — so about five years ago — for I believe $10. Maybe $20? I put it on a shelf because it’s big and bulky and at that time, I was intimidated about selling stuff larger than 8×10. I was still doing eBay part-time then. Amazing how things change!
My big classical music box set haul in Chicago last year taught me that I can sell almost anything. So about a month ago, I dusted off the Taylor Swift box set and did a little research. Sold listings in the $200 range. Not bad! Only one problem.
The CD was missing from the box set. So I spent another $15 on a brand new CD which I received after a week. Got the brilliant idea to list the box set to end after the Super Bowl, and that’s what I did last week. Took all my photographs and listed the set last Wednesday. Spent a couple bucks promoting the auction listing (which I would recommend — look up Promoted Listings Express), and within 24 hours I had about 25 watchers and a bunch of questions from Taylor Swift fans, who sure are something. The two most common questions I received were:
1. Did the box set contain a book?
2. Did the video work?
I didn’t know the answers to these questions before I listed the box set because, honestly, I just wanted to snap a few pics and be on my way. The book was hidden in a compartment in the bottom of the box set and I had originally missed it when I took the pictures. The video required charging a USB cord for a while and then pressing play. I realized I was leaving money on the table and leaving myself open to an INAD case with my original listing. So I went to revise the listing…and someone had put in a $99.99 opening bid.
I walked away from the computer for an hour which led me to the obvious solution: end the listing early, eat the final value fees (about $10) that eBay charges if you end an auction early when it has already received a bid, and make a new 3 day listing to start Friday and end the day after the Super Bowl. So that’s what I did! This cost me another $4 in fees ($1 for a 3 day auction, $1 extra to list in two categories, another couple bucks to promote the listing) and all of these fees add up.
But my auction ends later tonight and I’m already happy with the bid price even with 8 hours left in the bidding, and you just know there is going to be some last minute bidding activity on this one. I’ll be holding my breath until the item is delivered and I’ve received feedback from the buyer, but I’ve sold enough weird expensive items like this to know that most of these buyers are normal people who really, really, really like their special edition box sets.
What did you find this week?

I scavenged some Taylor Swift stuff this week!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266662867575
Journey to Fearless (Blu-ray) Taylor Swift
Not big dollars but I picked up 5 of these for $1 each at a local pawn shop. I haven’t sold any yet unfortunately. The STR was good so hopefully they start selling this week.
I mainly am picking up shoes and clothes at thrift stores right now. Just bread n butter stuff that hits my criteria. Here’s a couple good ones I’ve already listed from my pickups this week.

LL Bean Chukka Allagash Bison Brown Leather Moc Toe Boots Men’s Size 9 EE Wide
I knew these were special when I laid eyes on them. Bison leather is interesting – it definitely looks/feels more durable and interesting that normal grain leather. Kinda dark & wrinkly.

VANS SK8-Hi MTE Sneakers Mens Size 12 Fur Lined Black Leather Hi Top Skate Shoes
Vans are a great $20 sale in shoes. Pretty much any pair of Vans in good shape is worth $20. I don’t do $20 pickups right now, so they have to be special. These shoes fit that bill. High quality leather, enhanced sole, Scotchgard lining, and great condition. They were only $4 too, which is essential. They had another pair of leather Vans with Rose embroidery, but their price was $20. With a sales price of $25-30 those were a no-bueno.

Nike Boys KYBRID GS Black/Atomic Pink Kyrie Hybrid What The DA2322-001 Size 1 Y
Kyrie Irving is a garbage human being, but these shoes rock out. They are in mint condition. Again, $4. I love that my local Goodwill is heavily stocked in shoes and have their prices almost all back down to $4.
One other item I scavenged that I haven’t listed yet is a Calico Critters house complete with a bunch of figures/furniture. $10 at Goodwill and as a lot it will sell for $100.
There’s also a Lebron James Nike T shirt I got that possibly is a $100+ shirt. I’ll be listing it for $100+ either way, but need to do a bit more research. It is a large photo print t shirt of him from High School and is from the 2000’s.

That pair of Vans brought back a childhood memory. We had to have white canvas rubber-soled shoes for school games. To keep them white we had to use ‘blanco’ which (I’ve just found out) was liquid china clay. So basically I spent part of my childhood running around with a pair of pottery clogs on my feet.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235429463327 Pieced together a set (most of it Mercari outlet dealer with a bundle offer) and an extra sham from Ebay. I’m into it for about $70. Need to add more photos today of my items.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335252653423 I thought this guy was really interesting. I like him better than the comps so I priced up a bit. Paid $8 at local chain thrift.
My best rummage sale find next to the paintings. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235426460809 sold 4 sets already to a lady for $100. She must have had a search out.F
Finally, sharing this very large bowl. I’m a sucker for 50s-60s pottery like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235426548736
