I had what I think is a pretty normal week when you’re consistently putting in the work on eBay. I sold 30 items. I listed 35 items. No huge high dollar sales, but the math works for my business without them. Hoping for one or two bigger sales this week…which means I need to get some good items listed!
As far as last week’s sales, this 1993 Wimbledon ticket sold for my asking of $49.99 within an hour of creating the listing. There’s a sale in Terapeak for $100 from a few years ago, and a lot of buyers in my niches buy and sell strictly based on comps, so I had a good feeling this would sell fast. Paid $10 a few weeks ago, so a very quick flip.
Another ticket stub — I’m not a ticket guy now, I swear — from Jimmy Carter’s inauguration was a much slower mover, listed over a year. But it went for full price! Full price was “only” $20 and my COGS was $4.50.
On the trading card side of the business, I’ve been trying to diversify my cards lately and I’ve doing well with WNBA cards which led to a nice $40 team lot sale. I need to really sort this week as the WNBA playoffs just started and I want to get as many teams listed as I can. There will be a boom of WNBA cards over the next few years as more people realize how good many of the players are and the leagues expands to new teams, and with that, there will be a surge in card prices. I hope to make a few bucks from that along the way!
I’ve also been trying to educate myself on vintage and modern non-sports cards this year, and I’ve found a couple new areas of interest. The first are old tobacco cards, which are often not very valuable but fun to buy and sell for small profits, especially as items to submit to the consignment live streams which I participate in. The second is the ultra-modern non-sports market, where licensed properties like Star Wars and Marvel dominate. I won this artist signed Mephisto card in a live stream for $21 and it sold for a net of $45.52. This year has really been a lot of progress in diversifying what I sell and how it sells. It’s nice to see evidence of that progress every week.
What did you sell this week?

Ermenegildo Zegna Swim Trunks Men’s Size Small Blue Striped
Why would someone pay $100 for those swim trunks? No idea. There is literally NOTHING special about them. At least the high end Ralph Lauren stuff has cool fabrics, designs, features, etc.

Nikon Coolpix L310 Black Digital Camera 21x Zoom 14.1 Megapixels TESTED WORKS
I bought this camera for $10 at a yard sale for my kids to use for ebay photography. It just didn’t really work very well for my setup. No worries though – it’s a highly desirable camera and sold within a day for $130 on offer.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266894148955
Disney HANDY MANNY Talking Singing Dancing TOOL BOX 5 Tools 2007
Sold for full price even though it is badly sun damaged and missing pieces. People really want their Handy Manny merch. The fact alot of these old kids shows are available on streaming now really helps old merch values. I’ve been there – my kids have fallen in love with old shows and finding merch is HARD! Paid $4 at Goodwill

Cushe W Slipper II Canvas Slip On Shoes Women’s Size 7 Red Tropic
An interesting uncommon shoe brand. A pair of shoes like this will always catch my eye due to the uniqueness and high quality. A well made shoe just stands out in a pile of junk shoes. Sold for full price. I paid $5.

Burberry Coat Men’s 60 Reg Khaki Check Trench Classic Lined Jacket 44.5″ Long

That intermatic time switch is such an interesting sale to me — my local Goodwills are all terrible, but I’m sure they must put stuff like this on the shelves. I’d never know it was valuable without your posts. Just looks like a thing in a box to me.
What makes a well made shoe (or any clothing item really) stick out to you? Level of craftsmanship? Quality of the material? Unique brand/logo/size? I’m sure there must be plenty of stuff which looks valuable but there is just no demand.

Leather quality, sole quality (All leather sole with stacked leather heel is a good indicator), exotic materials ( snakeskin, ostrich, calf leather), more complicated details and/or just better craftsmanship (hand cut leather, special fabric treatments, nikeair “bubbles”, Goodyear welt soles, heavy duty stitching).
Some brands sell because of the name on the label. Some brands sell because their items are incredible quality. I love selling Ralph Lauren because they are both – name value and very high quality goods.
When it comes to clothes, pretty much the same rules. If you handle enough clothes you can literally run your hand across a rack of clothes and know when you touch a premium quality item. High quality leather, cotton, wool, etc just has a distinct feel. Have you ever felt Pima Cotton, calf leather, or cashmere? It just tickles a part of your brain that you develop a sensory memory for it.
Or with denim – once you handle some Japanese Selvedge or White Oak Cone denim, the walmart denim just feels…lame.
With vintage single stitch t shirts I don’t even need to see the single stitching – I can tell them by feel – the cotton was much higher quality back then – very similar to Pima cotton. it had to be higher quality to hold up to being just single stitched. I also have a personal attachment to this feel because of a Hard Rock Cafe shirt I bought in the 90’s. Man that shirt was awesome – so comfortable and so much more durable than any other shirt I owned.
But aside from quality, clothing sells based on style, cut, and look. I’m drawn to the wild cuts and colors I associate with neon 80’s craziness. They stand out like sore thumbs in racks.
