I feel like it is usually a good omen for the week ahead when you have a weekend sale of an item that’s very longtail. I think that’s a sign that you’re doing something right so the eBay elves are pushing your listings to as many buyers as possible, algorithm be damned. This past Sunday, I sold these high school/college wrestling training DVDs for $45. Purchased in a bundle about a year ago from the county library sale for about $5. I’d never received an offer on the listing until my perfect buyer came along. Some items you just have to wait.
Learned a similar lesson with my ongoing spring cleaning. I’ve been making flat rate boxes of my miscellaneous card listings, and this week was the big payoff: I sold three of them at $300+ a pop. First was a baseball box for a 20% offer to watcher, $319.99 plus shipping. Next was this football box for full price, $400. Finally, this box of soccer cards for $275. I considered sending all of these to auction because I want the money in hand and the shelf space, but I decided last weekend that I’d give them at least through the end of April. Turns out I didn’t need to wait that long. My COGS is between $100 and $175 on each box (basically $2 to $4 a card) and I’m really happy with the margin for the amount of time and effort these listings take, so hopefully that will motivate me to stay organized so I can easily make new versions of these listings.
Capped the week with a quick sale of a Bruno Fernandes autographed jersey card for my BIN price of $100, hopefully the first of many as I purchased quite a few of these cards. This one is headed to France. I received the package from Panini America on Saturday and got them listed that same day when there was just one other active listing and one sold listing, and my listing sold in about an hour. There are quite a few more active listings by now, so it will become something of a race to the bottom. But Bruno is a good player whose autographed cards consistently sell for $50 and up, and the Obsidian set is quite popular. My hope is that the Obsidian brand plus the jersey piece and serial number will keep the floor for these cards around $75, which would make for a nice overall profit once I sell all 18 cards. $750 or so.
What did you sell this week?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/335333116973 Bolo. I love these coffee mugs and find them from time to time. If I didn’t have our personal vacation mugs I would be collecting these arts and craft mugs. This got caught up in my sale and sold immediately.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235510722798 Can’t recall where I even got this but it sold immediately. I only picked it up because it was NIP Vineyard Vines. That brand I only see once in a while over here in the West.

Resale value of Vineyard Vines has dropped over the last couple years. Much like common Ralph Lauren shirts – it used to be an easy $30-40 item. I still pick it up when cheap, but not a home run sadly.

Not alot of huge home runs this week, but some fun items to share.

Adidas Originals Jardim Agharta Farm Firebird Track Jacket Brazil Rio SZ Medium
Picked this up at Goodwill for $10. It caught my eye while I was at the checkout on a rack that hadn’t been put on the normal racks just yet. I didn’t research it – just knew it was a sweet item that would do $30-40 easily. Well it was MUCH sweeter than that! Took an offer of $85, but I could have held out an eventually got full price. Holding out for full price just isn’t my game right now.

Donald J. Pliner Vergil Mama Loafers Mens Size 9 M Black Brown Shoes
I’ve had good luck with Donald Pliner used shoes over the years in mens and womens. Driving shoes always sell well in many brands. Sold for full price.

Sip-A-Roos 1990 The Simpsons Bart Simpson Toymax Box Drink Holder New on Card
This one took a while to sell. I ended/relisted with a lower price a month ago. Looks like that led to the sale. Such a FUN item! I will always pick up things like this even if they aren’t super valuable, because I enjoy selling it.

Nickelodeon The Rugrats Movie! Talking Reptar 8″ Wagon Toy Mattel 1998 With Dill
Yes, I realize now that it is Tommy and not Dill in the car. I copied from another listing and didn’t think about it much. The buyer is super excited – it was his favorite toy as a child and his kid wants to play with it too but he’s a bit rough. So buyer bought this one to give to his kid so that he can keep his own intact and on display. I love selling retro toys! This is the niche that makes ebay truly magical. Where else could this person have ever found this totally random toy from his childhood?

Schaefer Outfitter Vest Style 707 Mens 2XL Brown Herringbone Wool USA Ranchwear
Paid $5 at Goodwill. The goodwills around me redesigned their stores so the whole store is clothing racks and everything else is in metal racks on top of the clothing racks. Thankfully I’m tall – this layout SUCKS for short people. Anyways, my usual method is to go around the whole store and just let my eyes quickly scan the clothing racks and top racks to see if anything catches my eye. I also tend to run my hands along the clothing as high quality fabrics just have a different feel. This vest stood out as unusually high quality and wool. Gut feeling was correct. Sold in about a month on offer for $85.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider Encounters the Ferocious Doberman Action Figure In Box
The last of the Lara Croft playsets. Sold on offer for $50. Paid $2.

There’s an old 19th century term, ‘skied’. It’s where an artist finds that their painting’s been hung near the ceiling in an exhibition because the hanging committee hate it. Happens so often with art in thrift shops that I sometimes think I should carry a pair of binoculars.

Oh yeah, all the art is about 12 feet in the air at Goodwill now. It’s so high up I forget it’s there most days.
he used to be just stacked against the wall to where you could flip through everything and once upon a time I would sell a piece of art here and there.
I haven’t really sold art in years now

I went into Goodwill yesterday for the first time in five months; normally I just drop stuff off that I find free and don’t sell. I bought a carpetbagger carry on and six stuffies for $20. Geez expensive. I recently got 50 Care Bears and a Ganz Signature with code, so I got excited. Those are on BIN or auction now on eBay. I wanted one stuffie but my 9 yo was with me. Of course we have to save the stuffies.
Experiment coming: I have a friend who just did her first Whatnot live sale. She sold ten items for $132 in 2 hours. Not great but I have decided to try it this weekend with a bin of “smalls”, a few vintage Care Bears worth $20, and some vintage clothes that have been sitting on eBay for over a year. I signed up last night, watched some auctions, and have my “onboarding” class this Friday (45 minute Zoom call). We will see. I don’t sell on Instagram but am trying to find new markets.
