I have 51 sold items to choose from this week, a pretty wild number for a store with less than 250 items in it. I had 200 auctions end on Monday and Tuesday which were responsible for 29 of those sales. I returned most of the unsold inventory to my store the next day after the auctions ended, and I listed a fair amount of new items throughout the week. So I think this goes a long way to explaining my busy week. We’ll see what kind of progress I can make on listing over the next few weeks. I’m going to hold off on running auctions again until the last day of the month, Sunday the 31st.
15 of my sold listings were cards or autographed photos which I own in quantity. I’ve already discussed Stephen Curry golf cards before and one of those sold this week for $10, so I listed another one. I must be over $100 on profit on these silly golf cards already. I sold my last copy of two slightly more expensive cards, this Willie Mays Topps Heritage Korean War uniform card and this autographed rookie of future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner. Both sold in the $40 gross range and my net profit will be about $15 each, and both took about a month to sell. These types of cards (memorabilia of all-time legends, autographed rookies of Hall of Fame caliber modern players) have a fairly fixed value, it’s just a matter of finding them for a good deal. It has taken me a few years to learn these patterns, but slowly my inventory is becoming more about these types of items versus “I hope this sells for a good price someday soon” types of items.
My curated team lots totaled about $400 in sales this week and they are a consistent way for me to grind out $10 profits. These lots sell best when players are really in the news, like this lot featuring a card of future WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark. Unfortunately my COGS on the Clark card was $7, so my net profit on the lot was still around $12 despite the $29 net sale. But this lot would not have sold as quickly (or at all) without the Clark card.
My favorite sale of the week was my oddball sale, this set of Martial Arts books for $37.53 net. I sent them to auction with a starting bid of $29.99 which didn’t sell, so I returned them to my inventory at $59.99 BIN/BO and they sold on Friday for an offer I sent at 25% off, $44.99. 25 percent is a good number for sending offers to watchers. I bought these books at the library of the next town over, their “better books sale” where everything is $5 each and this rubber-banded set of three books was…$5 each, not $5 total like I expected. This library was a big source for me a few years ago, but little changes like this have made it easy to skip in favor of spring cleaning. Spring cleaning!
What did you sell this week?

I shared a table at an antiques fair on Sunday, and sold just enough to cover my share of the fee (£17.50) The fair was held in a college sports hall- we got put in some kind of ball court only accessible by steep steps. The out-of-the-way location and the cold and wet weather kept a lot of people away, so we spent at least four of the eight hours of the fair eating, drinking coffee and walking round the other stalls. It was knackering.

Sounds like a nice way to spend four hours, at least! I have always wondered in situations like this, why not get creative and all the sellers buy and sell from each other. Might not be any more profitable at the end of the day, but you’re all there anyway, why not go home with some different inventory. Of course, it takes two to tango and I’ve never met anyone else who’s thought remotely like this.

Yeah, but the other dealers have high-priced junk! Not kidding- one had a bronze death mask of a well-known German leader. The one who shot himself.

Sealed media, now that’s a nice sale christine! I feel like box sets like the one you sold are always sell as quickly as you can. With how much is available on demand and how quickly streaming platforms change, best not to get stuck with a shelf of bulky dvd sets. I have a few boxes of these to process over the next few weeks and I think I’m going to donate most of it.
Limited edition media is a different story, sometimes those are buy and hold for a year waiting for that right buyer

Lenox Federal Platinum 54 Piece Lot Flatware 18/10 Stainless Forks Spoons Knives
So I bought this shoe box size plastic bin of dinnerware a couple years ago for like $3. It looked like nice stuff, and I figured some day I’d take the time to sort it out and list it. Well that day finally came when I found it while clearing out my weight lifting platform death pile. I sorted it by brand/style. Then I found each style to check comps. Sometimes easy, sometimes I have to wade through all the styles on replacements.com to find it. That search paid off for this item. I could have pieced out every individual piece of all this silverware, but I wanted to keep it simple and keep my ASP higher. I took an offer of $65.

Faerie Tale Theatre VHS Tapes Lot Of 6 Shelley Duvall
Any time I see a collection of VHS or DVD I check it out. Sometimes it’s junk – sometimes it nets a good price and a quick sale like this lot. In most thrifts you have to buy each piece individually and it can add up quick. I paid $1 tape and this sold for full price within a month.

Billy Joel Vinyl LP Lot of 4 52nd Street An Innocent Man The Bridge Glass Houses
Paid $1 each record. Sold on offer for $35. Took 21 months to sell…yuck! I even lotted this up to try and improve the STR. It was fun to list a bunch of records. I enjoyed handling, researching, and playing them all. BUT, the STR is ABYSMAL!!! Thankfully all the records I have aren’t taking up much space. Eventually I will just lot them up as classic rock just to get rid of it all. They’re just junking up my store at this point.

SAS Duo Quarter Strap Comfort Women’s Leather Sandals Size 8.5 WW Natural
Sold for full price. Paid $6. SAS shoes are kinda hit/miss, but when they are a hit they are a $50+ sale. These were a great size and a great style. They still took 7 months to sell but I got full price.
