After a rough patch of low sales in February and early March, my numbers seem to be evening out a bit more. 20 sales this week for $828 gross/$584 net. I think it’s because I have been more consistent about my listing habits. 37 new listings last week, 34 the week before, and I’m up to three consecutive weeks of listing at least 2 items every single day. I have always kind of operated my reselling business on the theory that most sellers slip into poor listing practices without realizing it, and this is what leads to slow sales. It’s a lot of work to list consistently, reprice, send good offers and we’re all human and need a break sometimes.
My favorite sale this week was this 1980s Dale Murphy Atlanta Braves milk carton graded PSA 6 which I definitely underpriced (or priced accurately, if we want to be kinder) since it sold within a day of making the listing. Purchased on February 4th for $13.50 and my net was $63.36. Terapeak sales for the graded full milk carton are all over the map, from $24.24 for a PSA 6 in August 2022 to $199.99 for a PSA 5 this past August and $104 for a PSA 8 in the same month. I thought about pricing a bit higher, but ultimately I am content with selling a little low if I can sell something this fast. Barely had time to put it on my inventory shelf of randoms!
Another item from that shelf which sold is this 1986 Denver Broncos AFC Championship media guide which I still need to buy a label for. Net will be around $20, and this was part of one of those lot purchases which keeps on giving.
I recently invested in a bundle of 17×21 envelopes so I could ship larger signed photos, and this 1962 New York Mets photo was another quick flip, bought on February 4th for $21.50 and my net was $41.16 including the cost of the envelope. Nothing crazy but $20 profits have always been my bread and butter.
Continuing the Mets theme, I bought 10 of these Rafael Santana 1986 Mets certified autographs last April for a whopping $13 and my net on the one that sold this week was $16. It’s the third I’ve sold individually, total net profit over $50, and one of many examples why I like to keep my COGS under $2 on low-end purchases. It leaves a lot of flexibility for how I can sell and plenty of room for profit.
What did you sell this week?

Last year, maybe spring, I purchased an ephemera lot in a MaxSold auction for not too much money. In there was a collection from a few cruises in the 1960’s or 70’s. This was a group of menus from a European cruise in 1963 that sold for $34.

Later, the same buyer bought a single menu from the same cruise for $9. I think I separated it because it had a special engraving.

This was also in a MaxSold auction for just a few dollars. It is a horse racing framed photo that sold for $84.

I can go over some of my sales with my own MaxSold auction, but it will have to be another day.

Fantastic Four Movie Trailer 35mm Film 2005 FLAT Version 1
Sold on offer for $35. I bought a bunch of these film trailers a few years ago at a yard sale – $10 for the lot. I’ve Sold about half of them at this point. Truly rare items you can’t find in the wild. They were “supposed” to be returned to the studios, but all of these were from the very end of film before theaters switched to digital. I guess they didn’t want them back at that point!

Sometimes investing in the proper tool or shipping box type can really level up your business. I remember hemming and hawing over buying dedicated record mailers or dedicated vcr/dvd player sized boxes. Both times I Finally bit the bullet and got them I almost immediately thought “I should have done this AGES ago!”
Having the right things on hand not only lets you deal with death pile items you are dreading, but saves you tons of time being already prepared in case a special haul comes your way. Then you don’t have to “dread” handling it – you look forward to it!

Yeah, for some reason eBay “forced” me to use UPS to post a fishing reel to Reno. I now have two boxes of several thousand packing list envelopes, one box with “documents enclosed”, one without, just to attach the three copies of the packing list and an extra mailing label.
Saved a pound compared to Royal Mail prices, had to drive half an hour to a dropoff that wasn’t “ghetto”.
