My sale of the week this week was also my highest sale, this Karl Malone Type 1 Photo for $235 which I bought for just $20. The original listing was in the wrong category and the title was bad. My niche is sports memorabilia and trading cards, but even though this item is basketball-related, I really had to educate myself to figure out its value. Type 1 photos are the most desirable to collectors because they are developed within 1 year from when the original photo is taken. Karl Malone was a star player and this photo was from his rookie year. I struggled to find similar listings so my BIN of $299 was pretty much a guess. It may have been too low since this sold very quickly, within a day, after a whole bunch of offers.
Even if I left some profit on the table, this sale was a huge victory for me. Usually when I sell items outside my comfort zone, the first few sales are a small profit at best. Maybe even a loss. I have to make mistakes in order to learn. I think this is how you learn when you sell online. But this time I learned about a new niche and made a profit. If only it always went like that!
What did you sell this week?

That’s a cool sale. DIdn’t know PSA graded photos as well, but I guess it makes sense. You’re always educating us.

I wasn’t aware PSA graded photos before buying this one, either. I came across the original auction from one of the consignment sellers I buy from every week, and the bid was low enough that I figured it was worth a gamble of $20 or so. I had no illusions of winning the auction, but it was listed in some strange category and not the best title. One of the perils of selling your items through a consignor.
I had glanced at a trading card message board thread about type 1 photos a few weeks before coming across the auction for the Malone photo. A lot of my death pile inventory are purchases like this. I got particularly lucky with this one because it was such a desirable player and a rookie photo. Type 1 photos from a random year or random player aren’t worth quite as much, graded or not.

My big sale of the week was a pair of antique napkin rings for $199.95: Pair of Antique Meriden Silver Plate Napkin Rings Pheasant & Crystal Pattern 244 | eBay
If you haven’t come across them already, Meriden napkin rings are very collectible with some of the more sought-after ones going for around $1000. This pair was unusual in that it has the crystal insert. and seems to be rare, as I could find no comps anywhere, however, it also took a long time to sell, so not too many people are looking for one like this. I started it at $300 3 years ago, dropping the price to $200 last year since I’d seen no interest other than low ball offers. I paid $3 for them at an auction.

I don’t think I’d ever be the kind of person who buys or uses napkin rings, let alone $200 (!!!) napkin rings. But those napkin rings are pretty cool looking. I’m glad you got your full price after three years of waiting. It can be so tempting with valuable longtail items to take a lowball offer, especially with items which are larger than a bread box (or a napkin ring).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334643120491 Brown glaze is not my thing but sold these cute Hull pottery gingerbread men. Thrifted them separately back in the day. There were quite a few listed so I’m grateful to have sold them.

Someday, I am gonna have my own home with fancy plates, and by fancy I mean kitschy, and when I go plate shopping, the first place I am going to look is your eBay store. You always sell the coolest plates and kitchen stuff!
