I haven’t been listing really at all outside of my sports cards niche, and that’s reflected in last week’s numbers — that’s all that I sold!
My favorite card that I sold last week was this Derek Jeter “Bronx Blob” art card for $28 gross/$18 net and here was the original listing that I bought from in December for a total of about $2. These types of cards because very popular during the pandemic because of a Topps set called Project 2020 which happened to get released right at the beginning of the pandemic and saw huge value swings in that time period even though most of the cards are worth no more than what they original cost from Topps, around $10.
The “best” card I sold was this L’Jarius Sneed Panini Contenders championship ticket autographed rookie individually numbered to 49 for $217 gross/$165 net and my COGS was $85. A bit less higher of a margin than I usually like, but I knew this would sell fast because Sneed is one of the best defensive players on the Chiefs (who just made the Super Bowl, led by their defense this year) and he has very few cards because every card manufacturer focuses on quarterbacks and receivers. I have one more Sneed autograph in my to be listed box and another one in this price range which just shipped today.
12 of my 42 sales were my curated team card lots, with the largest in terms of size and money being this 20 card Chiefs lot for $62 gross/$40 net. My COGS on this lot specifically was just under $20. I’d love to consistently keep that number under $15 for this size of a lot, that way my net can go under $40 and I’m still making $20 profit, but for now I’m happy sustaining a few of these sales each week. I store these lots sorted by team in these big four row card boxes and it clears out a nice chunk of space when a large lot sells. Then I go through and make a new one of that team and hopefully repeat the process again.
What did you sell this week?

Bose Companion 3 Speakers Series I Multimedia Speaker System TESTED
I picked this up at the premium hoarder sale for $20. It was sitting up front when I was checking out. Bose stuff is always a BOLO if the price is right.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266402925586
Team Caliber Owner Series Adam Petty Winston Cup 2000 Monte Carlo Sprint Car
Collectable die cast cars are a mixed bag. Most is worthless but some of it can be very valuable. I bought 4 of these at a sale blind because I just had a gut feeling there was something special in there. This wasn’t the best one but still it was a great pickup. Sold for $35 on offer.
If you find die cast car stuff, you just have to research it or get it dirt cheap. At this sale they were $5 each but I was able to use the ‘build a pile’ method to get the price down overall.

LG RC199H VHS VCR DVD Combo Player Recorder HDMI & RCA Out No Remote
Sold in one day. I really need to do better getting my VCR stuff listed so it can sell. I’m sitting on quite a few in my death piles. I only listed this one because I needed something with stereo inputs to test some headphones.

CON-TECH LA-13-P T Connector – White
A small sale at $17, but I bought a pile of these things at the habitat for humanity a few years ago for $1 each. I’ve made quite a bit off of them. I go to the habitat for humanity about once a year and always find something neat to sell. I always like buying things in quantity for cheap with decent STR.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 Microsoft Xbox 360 Disc Only
This is the third copy of this game I’ve sold in the last month or two, but the first on xbox 360. Why is it so much more valuable on Xbox? Who knows! I’ll take it though.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266462716649
Avantree Opera Black Bluetooth 5.0 Comfortable Wireless Headphones BTHT-6190
Just a random item that caught my eye at goodwill. Seemed like unusual and high quality headphones. Price was right at $3. Sodl for $51 on offer.

Everbilt Multi-purpose Screws #7 x 1-5/8″ 1 lb Box Lot of 5
Home depot occasionally has some REALLY good clearance stuff. I’ve made quite a bit off of clearance stuff over the years from there. One day they had a shelf of different boxes of screws for 50 cents a box. I bought all of it…and then let it set on a death pile shelf for a long time. Occasionally I’ll get a wild hair and list some of them. They have almost all sold at this point. Not a big profit but it has added up to well over $100 over time. I’ll be listing the last two lots this week once I catch up on photos.

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon F
SLR camera bundles are always a BOLO. They’re usually cheap and can be parted out to make the most money. This is the second lens I sold from this Nikon bundle. Once the camera sells I’ll have made about $400 on a $5 purchase. The key is to check the optics for clarity. If you can see mold/mildew inside the lens optics then it is no good.

I should learn more about teacups. The Nurse Flipper on Youtube has a famous research video on it. This was filthy when thrifted and the buyer is quite pleased. Paid $2.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/235395705001
Here’s a buy I wasn’t very confident in. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235033928170 Buyer was so excited about it, they wrote to find out more about where it came from. (Friends: I fibbed and said an estate sale not GW). Paid $7.99 I donated the rods so shipping would be cheaper since I wasn’t totally feeling it.

@christiner That teacup has an unusual shape (broader, flatter) and the pattern seemed unusual for Wedgwood. Seems that it’s made for the American market as all the examples I found for sale were from US and Canadian sellers. I guess it’s for drinking tea without milk, in a warm climate.

@Antiquefrog I know the Wedgwood and Royal Albert names. What are some other good ones to ff the top of your head?

As regards tea cups I honestly don’t know. The market in the UK for traditional and antique dinnerware is pretty moribund. Mason’s Ironstone was popular with collectors as was Royal Crown Derby, but not so much now. Some Poole, such as the early Art Deco stuff and the MCM abstract designs seem to be popular. There’s a lot of Poole pastel-coloured teasets around, but they’re quite fragile.
I viewed one of Nurse Flipper’s videos about tea cups- seems that the German ones covered in gold fetch the most. The way tea bags stain the mugs I use, I wouldn’t like to use a thousand-dollar gold-lined cup for a cuppa!

Thanks. I never find art deco stuff, but just a lot of English grandma florals.

One area that does seem to fetch good prices (but not thousands!) is Chinese Yixing teapots. There’s a lot of modern ones which aren’t worth much, but the older ones can be valuable. The Chinese restaurants in America in the 1920s and 1930s used them. There’s an Edward Hopper painting, Chop Suey, which shows one.
There’s quite a bit of repro Clarice Cliffe around, and 1980s designs inspired by her. I gather Art Deco is out of fashion over here.

@ChristineR – You could try using “Grandmacore” or “Cottagecore” on your listings. Those are two design trends that might be interested in fancy porcelain.
When I was a kid, my grandparents would buy me a cup and saucer from whatever country they visited. When I started reselling, I purchased a few cup/saucers, and they took forever to sell at maybe $10. I guess my collection is only worth something to me. 🙂

@sharyn A friend and I ran a stall at an antiques fair on New Year’s Day next to a very friendly Scottish gentleman’s large stall full of traditional British porcelain. I think over the eight hours of the fair he sold one mug. We’re doing it again in March, so if I see him there I’ll tell him he should be selling it as “Grannycore”. 🙂
I’ve been keeping a lookout over the last two or three years for Mochaware mugs. I’ve seen only one, a damaged mug at a Newark antique fair priced at £80.

That’s true @Sharyn. I pass over a lot of teacups. I do check them out sometimes if they are gold.
I’ve been putting the keyword Farmhouse in anything that remotely fits. I saw a fun article on trends around New Year’s regarding Grandma Chic morphing into a more sophisticated, tailored look.
Check out “Coastal Grandpa” https://www.veranda.com/home-decorators/design-trends/a45628020/coastal-grandpa-design-trend-2024/
There is also eclectic grandpa.

@antique-frog – Interesting. Looking through solds, I can’t tell the difference between ones that went for $40 and ones at $1500.
@christiner – I think they are just coming up with names so that they can sell to younger people who are interested in saving money and buying used items. The different combinations with grandma and grandpa are pretty funny. -

@Sharon Agree. I’m ok with trends if it helps people discover vintage.

The painting above the fireplace in the last photo of the Coastal Grandpa article. It looked to me like something from the British artists Rex Whistler or Tristam Hillier of the 1930s to 1950s, so I checked it using Google Lens. There must be hundreds of paintings, all with the same theme- ruined arch under lowering sky- going way back into the early 18th century. Guess it’s a classical meme!
