Because I’m still in a too-small apartment, sale of the week for me is often the item that takes up the most space. Last week that was this 1970s art book which was a $5 book sale find that sold at auction for $14.99. But after shipping and fees, my net profit was about $3.50, so that’s not really a sale of the week if we’re being honest, is it?
So let’s go with this Cal Ripken Jr. autograph #/8 which was a previous scavenge of the week find within a $20 (poorly listed) set. Net $151.36 so a cool $100 profit. Because my list price was over $250, this card was first shipped to the Authenticity Guaranteed program in Florida, then to the buyer. I’m not sure if you’ve had to deal with the AG program at all, but my experiences within the sports card and memorabilia branch of the program have all been positive. I feel much more confident selling $250+ items on eBay than I did a few years ago.
But my bread and butter is still the $20 to $100 items. On that note, another sale of the week candidate is this Reed Sheppard Topps Chrome blue refractor for $64.16 net. I paid $20 for it. Sheppard is one of the top basketball players on the Kentucky Wildcats and it is almost March Madness. Historically, there has been a lot less focus on making college sets versus the pro teams, though this has started to change the last few years and I expect more college sets as rules continue to change around how college athletes receive compensation for the name, image and likeness. Demand for certain teams, like Kentucky, is definitely there. I do well making curated lots with cards from the popular teams as well. I haven’t done many of those in the last week as I have been running auctions and organizing inventory, but I’m due for a big batch later this week and making a mental note to add Kentucky to the top of the pile.
What did you sell this week?

My Stop Smoking Coach with Allen Carr – Nintendo DS DSL DSI 3DS 2DS Complete CIB
I may have mentioned this one last week, but I’ll mention it again. I sold all 5 of these pretty quickly. Not bad for a bargain bin pickup from a pawn shop. I love it when I can walk into a place that knows their stuff and find a profitable item they missed that they disregarded. It’s a personal scavenging victory.

Cadillac Escaladefootball jersey Size XXXL LXR blue #22 Street Luxury
This one was a end/sell similar victory for me. This sat for years. I end/sell similar with a reduced price (and a new typo in the title) and got an offer quick for $50. Yes I will sell this item I’ve had sit for almost 5 years for $50. Thank you!

LALALOOPSY Doll Charlotte Charades Mime Large Full Size Doll Toy COMPLETE
My daughter has a big collection of Lalaloopsy so I’ve always had my eye out for them for her. She ruined a HUGE collection of mini dolls complete with all accessories over the years so I don’t give her the nice ones anymore – I sell them! I wish I would have sold all those minis instead of gifting them to her about 8 years ago. Lesson learned. She’s 17 now and still doesn’t take care of her stuff.

Mecca Jeans Mens 34×30 Light Vintage Wide Leg Baggy Hip Hop Y2K Pants NWT
At first I thought these were a Premium Hoarder item, but Nope – just a Goodwill find. I always keep my eyes peeled for NWT clothes at Goodwill. Surprisingly, I find quite a bit. Sold for $85. Jeans are typically $8 now at the local Goodwills.

ScotteVest Womens QUEST Black Vest full zip Pockets Shark Tank Size M2 XXL
This one here is a prime example of why it is important to source even if you don’t need much. This vest caught my eye as I did a quick scan through the women’s section of a Goodwill I only go to about once a month. This here is what you call a No-brainer BOLO. Very high STR and amazing sales price. Sold for full price.

Nice mix of items. I love finding niche video games (or game-adjacent items) like your Allen Carr Nintendo DS cache. It is so interesting to me how these weird things end up on a Nintendo, Xbox or Playstation platform. It totally feels like a scavenging victory every time, because they’re almost always underpriced. Except for Great Courses sets, for some reason.
The end/sell similar victory (w/ typo!) story is hilarious. Got to love that eBay algorithm. Did you price that higher back in the day and slowly bring down your price or offer settings, or was it $69.99 this whole time? $50 sale on a $70 listing, those are the kinds of offers I like!
Great title on the Scottevest. You did well on the sale compared to Terapeak solds, and I have a theory why.
The third autocomplete result in Google for Scottevest is Shark Tank, but the majority of active/sold eBay listings for the Scottevest don’t contain the words Shark Tank. Maybe your buyer would have bought your listing regardless. There’s no real way to know, no matter how deep we dig into eBay’s analytics. But maximizing keywords in the title, like you did, feels like an easy way to make your listing stand out from hack amateurs listing on their phone and faceless corporations cross-posting to every. single. resale. site.
So, at least two lessons learned from that sale. Not bad for a $10ish investment!

I was at $100 for years on that Cadillac jersey. $69.99 was what I repriced it at when I relisted as is seemed about right.
On the vest, you probably know more about it than I do. I knew it was special just on gut. Research showed a high STR. The size also seemed to be a good indicator of higher price.
My approach is to look at what key words the highest priced solds have in common and model after those. Shark Tank was definitely something that stood out, and couldn’t hurt including it.
I didn’t even realize it had so many pockets until I went to photograph it. This thing is absurd!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334920608020 This took quite a while to sell but finally got a good offer. I thought the design was striking, and later found the artist. It was in the death piles for years. Paid $3-6
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235412996502 From the kids’ bedding box of death piles I did last week. Buyer was thrilled. Paid $5-6 at Indy thrift.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/334913103836 Sale of the week. This is my last one by this artist to sell. I found almost the whole 12 month set at Goodwill a couple of years ago for $3.99 apiece.

That tea pot is really beautiful. Do you remember where you found it or how long ago it was? You have this incredible talent for finding kitchen stuff that makes me fantasize about my future home!
The month plaque is so interesting to me, too. I see its value now, but in a thrift store I feel like I’d walk right past it. Amazing sale for a $3.99 purchase price. What was your net profit on the whole deal, and how long did it take to sell?

Your photos always look great.
What are you using for the white background in your photos? For example, for those Mecca Jeans?-

I use white marine vinyl from hobby lobby. My piece is pretty beat up and I need to replace it.
I have about a 10’ piece that I hang from a rod on the wall so I can do tall pieces such as overalls. I keep 1-2’ folded under the front lip of my 3’x5’ table. If I have something deeper I unfold the extra and put a box under it to make my table deeper for that item.-

Retro: Thanks. I can sort of visualize your setup. For the Mecca jeans, they are laid flat on your table? If so, how do you get your iPhone camera up over the jeans to take the overview shots?

I lay jeans flat on table. I have a step stool I use to get a bit higher and hold my camera out over the jeans to take the top down photo.
