A solid 38 items sold this past week, which is about what I’d hope for out of my 350 item store considering I’ve created over 100 new listings (!) in the last two weeks alone. I’m really hoping to get over 400 listings by the end of this week, but mostly I’m happy when stuff sells.
My weekly breakdown remained consistent from last week, with about half of my sales from the trading card lots category. My favorite sale was this lot of Indiana Fever WNBA cards featuring a card of the great Caitlin Clark for my full BIN price of $39.99. My net was $31.91 and my COGS was about $13. WNBA cards are an emerging market and I really enjoy selling them, even if they take a little more effort to put together than your standard lot of Yankees or Dallas Cowboys or Lakers.
A very cool individual card sale this week — this card was ordered was shipped to the team’s stadium, c/o the player themselves! They paid full price, which meant that I made about $30 net on the sale, and a little profit plus a story is what makes reselling such a rewarding job, side hustle or hobby. I sent them another rookie card of them and a short note congratulating them for their great taste in cards and wishing them luck with the rest of their season. I went back and forth on sending the note, but ultimately went with my gut to do the human thing and acknowledge the situation. Would you have sent the note? Have you ever had an unusual buyer?
My non-card sales were just over $200 this week, pretty decent for someone whose primary business is cardboard rectangles. The highlight was last night, a Kyle Lowry NBA locker room nameplate for $125 plus Canadian shipping. I still need to print the shipping label, but my net will be just under $100 and I paid $35 back in January. I lingered on listing these for a few months, but now I’ve sold three of them, all over $100. Love it! I sold two more full-sized jerseys this week as well, and nothing more fun than selling a Jose Canseco signed jersey. Net $25.80, COGS $10, which felt like a steal at the time….then I dug a little deeper in Terapeak. Jose has signed anything and everything over the years, but his star burned bright enough and for long enough that there is still a good market for his autographs — as long as you price them right!
Still all sports-related items, since that’s what I’ve been buying this year and listing recently when I’m not slinging cards. But my sports memorabilia death piles are starting to shrink. Then I have a few bins of non-sports items to list, or lot up, or donate, or stare at mournfully. What will I do after those things are listed? Probably list some new types of card listings. I already have some ideas. And then we will see what direction I go in after that.
What did you sell this week?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235650762633 I’m proud of this sale because I’ve been challenging myself a bit with clear glass lately. This sold quickly and the person was really happy to replace their broken bowl.

Polo Ralph Lauren Leather Jacket Motorcycle Driving SOFT Men’s Size XXL NWT
Sold on offer for $980!!! I don’t remember the sticker price at the time at the hoarder sale – probably $50 or so but I know my average price per item on that trip was $10-12.
This jacket is soooooooo butter smooth. The nicest leather I’ve ever touched. Ricardo Montalban would be impressed.

Oh man the binding machine was a BEAR to ship! I’ve been dreading this since it sold.
I imagine the feeling is similar to winning at a video game…and having to step out the door and actually do whatever it was you did in the game!
I “won” that $650 in the magical video game called ebay on my phone. If only I could just keep the money and call it a day. LOL!
I had to buy a heavy duty 24×18 box at menards to ship it in. Another break is that the long handle easily comes off with a simple finger screw. Just for an occasion such as this I keep 1.5″ foam board on hand. The box was near perfect to place a full cocoon of the cut foam board around the machine and use packing peanuts I sourced from shipping dept at work to fill the internal void space. I sized the height of the box down to 15″ to perfectly fit around the top layer of foam board.
The package is a fort knox and weighed 67 lbs!
This is definitely some advance wizard level shipping work!

What an interesting saga…the tale of the binding machine…seems easier (?) to just sell $85 T-shirts (!!!) and $980 leather jackets (Fonzie would be impressed) but at least you get to say you packaged a 67 pound beast!
It’s so interesting that you can find a bookbinding machine out in the wild…very cool item! I always want to know what the buyer’s whole deal is with an item like that…
