My March auctions ended last Sunday, so the vast majority of my sales last week were individual trading cards. A good way to get a bunch of sales in a week! But not all that interesting. A lot of grunt work.
This Nike LeBron James 2003 advertising pitch book, however, is both expensive and interesting. Sold last Friday at my full price BIN of $499.99. Purchased from an eBay auction, one of the consignment sellers I buy from every week, for $55 in September 2022. I had a regular lowballer offer me in the $250 range for over a year which led to me raising the price from $400 to $500. Glad I did. I know the sports memorabilia market well enough to be very confident that this will be worth more in the future, but I’m happy with a $300 profit now.
What did you sell this week?

Sony CFD-E75 Yellow CD Cassette Player AM FM Radio Portable Boombox w/ Remote
Bought last summer at a yard sale for $10. I’m surprised it took so long to sell.

Harley Davidson Women’s Riding Motorcycle Jacket Shoulder Pads Medium Embroidery
Sold on offer for $45. I still have a couple of these women’s Harley jackets left.

Tote 45 Record Green Carrying Case Hartzell Loaded With 54 45 Records 70’s 80’s
I LOVE picking up these awesome 45 record totes. I’ve sold several over the years with or without records. For the life of me I can’t remember where I picked this one up. Did I pick it up at a yard sale last summer or did I pull it out of the death pile? I think it was the death pile. Either way I only paid a couple bucks.

Nike Apres Ski Knee High Snow Boots White Silver 414950-100 Women’s Size 7.5
Sold for full price. Paid $1 at a yard sale. SCORE!

Greenworks 40v 2.5 Ah Battery WITH Charger 2938402 Tested Good
I bought what I thought was one battery and one charger at Goodwill. It turned out to be two chargers once I busted open the taped up box that was with it. FREEBIE! Sold on offer for $54. I have the other charger still listed so I’ll make more than originally planned.

These yard sale scores are amazing.
Love the record tote, and the yard sale who sold you a nice pair of women’s snow boots for a measly dollar. I would love to find a yard sale like that!
I feel like a lot of people pass up tools with batteries and chargers at Goodwill because there’s a lot of junk, and who knows if what’s inside is a different item or maybe it doesn’t work. This feels like an area where knowledge can go a long way and the ability to repair or test things can be really helpful. I don’t know anything about any of that stuff. But maybe someday!

Power tool chargers are a BOLO for me. I find them regularly for $1 at yard sales and they sell quick for $20-50+.
I also buy battery powered tools when the price is right and piece them out. I sold two craftsman reciprocating saws on ebay this week for $25 each. I bought an entire bin of Craftsman 18v tools last summer for $20. They were dirty but there were a ton of tools, a charger, and two batteries.
Yard sales are where the magic happens. Goodwills are great for bread n butter items but the unique stuff just never makes it to the floor anymore. Oh man, when I first started actively selling scavenge finds I found SOOOO much amazing stuff at Goodwill for next to nothing. It’s a different beast now – thrifts know what they have.
For every yard sale where I find shoes like that for $1, there will be another that has someone asking top dollar for everything. You just have to hit as many sales as efficiently as you can. I stick to the same local path every week and hit everything in that loop in about 2 hours. I never go to any other towns or areas here. I would if I was full time. If you’re willing to branch out to other areas and go HARD from 7am to 3pm you could find so much amazing stuff anywhere in the US.
If I remember right, you don’t have a car. It would be worth your while to rent a cheap car for the weekend for $100-150 and go to some suburbs around your area. Find some neighborhood wide sales and load up.
That would be a great adventure. It would be no sweat to score at least $1k of inventory for less than $100 COGS with a full days scavenging if you hit enough sales.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/335252635190 This is my pick because I’ve been venturing recently into the clear glass isle. I just take a quick glance and once in a while I pick things up. Barware seems to sell pretty well these days but I rarely find any colored or super cool ones.
This week I picked up a set of 4 of these. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314803095639?itmmeta=01HVHSRRJSW6T0N3QY8FFMJQBS&hash=item494bba0857:g:aycAAOSwCJVk7zK3&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0KQKoVroTCZvFMphnk1YRImhIPuERutc9TMHS7DACt%2FlzFcERQuCRAgqZH8WRdqbYsTe4IYa22i%2BFMXgwiMU2x5ZjLlHvsJOCyKWKaKFWyJvpSLZ1V2GBHvTlPNP027R%2Bxp6TfSDlX7SadfGWwmeNi64NlqWif2tLNSnLWxUHMZoUZR3hRepJ%2BZdmJItOKBg%2BbX%2B0YLsi567fCYAaWVRsskYUaUq%2Fmqa8MF8Ws2HLgUA6QUFIe%2BcASa4a%2FxJPvO%2FKQzUD7dSBkAazsYDZhvUpmU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR76J47ncYw They are super heavy and kind of interesting.

Christine, what do you look for when looking at clear glass? Is it just how heavy it is or the design or some kind of marks?
The little church thrift store by me has a room full of stuff like this, but I have no idea what I’m looking at so I have assumed that it’s junk like everything else in their store. But your post got me thinking I might be wrong.

@Craig here’s another example I got listed this week. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235531888076 In an isle full of boring glass this is easy to spot due to the texture. The french brand Lalique does very well but I just avoid getting into the bigger items and haven’t found it yet. The signature is subtle.
Incidentally, AI made this description for me. It’s more concise than when I tried it before.

Now that is an item I know would catch my eye. Beautiful item! It’s rare to see special or unique glass here.

There used to be a nice Scandinavian lady on YouTube who posted about this subject. I can’t find her channel any longer. If you are lucky it might still have a sticker or be marked. I ignored it all for a long time but just started looking again. Basically I look for anything that looks like ice, nature, or midcentury starbursts. The Italian glasses stood out for their heft. It’s much better now with Google lens because my attention span for clear glass is short. I’m picking up small dishes to sell live as trinket trays in the booth ($1-3). They will look better in the sunlight.

There was a while back a couple trading in clear glass at antique fairs. They displayed their wares on a white cloth, which made the stuff barely visible.
British commercial barware (dimpled pint mugs etc.) often is marked with a crown and a number.
The number refers to the Weights and Measures authority in the locality where the barware is sent to be certified.

About a year ago at Goodwill, I saw a woman checking the glassware with some sort of handheld light. I cannot recall much detail about it; And still don’t have any idea what that might have been.
I don’t know much about glassware. Is it true you can determine crystal by making it ring?

She was checking for uranium glass with a blacklight. It’s collectible but not worth a ton of money. Pretty cool stuff because it glows under a UV light.

@timo I think it’s glass with lead added- lead crystal- that rings. As for the decoration, it can be cut glass, where patterns are cut with an abrasive wheel, moulded glass, or cut glass that’s been acid-washed to smooth out the sharp edges of the cuts.

“Glowy glass” is a big Youtube trend. I’m wondering how long it will last. Silly to me because it only glows if you put it under a black light in a granny display cabinet. It’s interesting to see what catches on. I hope brass doesn’t go out soon because I have some to unload.

I’ve sold horse brasses for good money, and also for a pittance. They don’t seem to have been used in America. I find them all the time in thrift shops, but mostly modern ones. It’s like stamps- the old 80/20 rule. Only a few stamps/horse brasses keep a good price when the trend dies, but they do keep their price.
