July 4 I sold a tray lot of Harley Davidson pins for $45 for 36 pins. It was an auction with a buy it now option. He did buy it now.
In the description I said
Lot of 36 Harley Davidson Pins.
see photo for details.
In the item specifics under
make: Harley Davidson
He is claiming that some of them are not ‘authentic’ HD pins and since I wrote that in the item specifics implying I was not honest. Asked me to tell him how I know they are ….
I’m sorry you are unhappy with your purchase. These came from a Harley Lot.
They all said Harley on them except the skulls.
If you do not like, them please put in an official request to return them.
My ? do I need to refund the shipping. ? and what about the tax?
How do I refund now on ebay before or after they return the item? I haven’t done a return in years. (casual seller)
Thanks in advance for the advice. In the future I will add to please ask any ?’s prior to buying.
I thought they were real Harley not an expert but I also did not say ‘authentic’ etc. Pictures showed front and back of pins also.

Depending on the return reason the buyer selects at the time he initiates the return, Ebay will either bill him or you for the return. Item Not As Described is likely what this buyer will select which means you’ll cover the return shipping. If you agree with that reason, then when you receive the item back, you should refund any shipping buyer originally paid.

I really don’t agree I said they were Harley pins they are. Photos were clear. This came to $1.25 a pin.
he was a little weird when he purchased .sent a detailed message about separating the pins prior to shipping. (Which I did) Anyway hoping he doesn’t initiate claim.

I always try to put myself in the buyers shoes and react the way I would want a seller to react.
Judging by what you have said you can’t 100% know they are authentic if you didn’t purchase them new, so he kind of has you. If you didn’t specify in your listing that it is a mixed lot with “some” Harley Davidson, then he kind of has you there too.
In these situations I will acknowledge any details I may have left out or left ambiguous, and start the negotiation by asking the customer how I can make it right for them. Sometimes they say “it’s no problem I get it”. Sometimes they ask for a token refund. I always have them suggest a number first. Usually it is lower than I would have offered.
If they are unreasonable with their resolution, then just say “return for refund” and leave it up to fate on which option they choose for refund. Keep this in mind as well – you can now opt to not refund original shipping if you charge for shipping even on INAD cases. I’ve done this several times for buyers who have misused the INAD return system and noone has ever challenged it.

Okay so he is now threatening me with Negative fb and wants a discount only. I will take them back how to respond?
>Hello, I disagree with you (I just agree that the pinsns with the skulls do not belong to make H-D and this is not encouraging). Unfortunately, I cannot return the pins now because they are already far away. The badges I have marked are not original and this is a remake that you claim to be the original. Thus, I am ready to solve everything peacefully and do not want to leave negative feedback for you. I’ll be happy with partial compensation $15 to forget about this incident.
I am waiting for your decision</div></td>

Your buyer has given you a gift: feedback extortion for a discount and refusal to return the item. Your polite message asking him to return the lot was the perfect response. At this point, you should be able to go silent and do nothing. You need say nothing more. If he gives you negative feedback, you can contact eBay to have it removed.
Caveat: this is based on previous experience. YMMV. It may take more than one call to eBay to get a CSR who knows what to do.
A bit of advice for the future: when selling unique and collectible items, take greater care with your representations. See Retro’s reply above and take it to heart.

Thanks for all the help to all.
I am trying move a bunch of stuff selling in auctions as wholesale lots.
I never should of filled out item specifics however. he does not really say how he knows they are not authentic just claims they are not. and I believe they probably are real. They are inexpensive harley pins I looked them all up on eBay for pricing ideas before deciding to sell as a lot and found the same ones on eBay all saying Harley. Same as me .
he may do this with other sales who knows?
I have 100% pos fb anyway I was going to respond and tell him I don’t do fb retaliation but I will just go silent as recommended . 😊

Oooh, yeah you need to tell him to pound sand and that he has to return for full refund. This is likely a drop shipper or a container shipper. Either way he’s likely in violation of ebay policy and cannot return the item. He also threatened you with feedback extortion.
You are good to go here. He won’t return it and if he leaves you a neg you can easily get it removed.

So he left me a big fat negative
“Many of the pins from the lot are not original from the vintage era and are now redone, the seller also stopped communicating.”
I also never said they were ‘vintage’.
last week I reported him thru ebays auto report a buyer and and wrote about his not being willing to return item only wanted $$ back with a threat for neg fb.
I received an auto response we are looking into it.
Now I sent in for a fb revision. How do you call on the phone now ? It says no longer accepting calls.

We’ve looked carefully at this feedback and see that it doesn’t qualify for removal.
Feedback is a way to let our members share their experiences with other members. Feedback that breaches the feedback policy may be removed by eBay. We won’t remove feedback on the grounds that a seller believes a comment is untrue or undeserved.
While feedback doesn’t affect your seller performance metrics, we understand that positive feedback is important to you. You can try to resolve the situation by asking the buyer to revise their feedback. It’s important to resolve their concerns before asking about feedback revision.
If your feedback revision request is unsuccessful, you can reply to your buyer in the Feedback forum. Other buyers will be able to see your reply, giving you the opportunity to tell your side of the story.
For more help with replying to feedback, see:
We appreciate your understanding and wish you the best on eBay in the future. Thanks,
Please don’t reply to this message. It was sent from an address that doesn’t accept incoming email.
I also cannot find a way to respond to the neg.

Don’t reply to the feedback just yet. That may make it more difficult to get it removed.
Get eBay on the phone. You were threatened with a negative feedback in eBay messages. They should remove it. If the first phone rep cannot do it, keep trying.

Okay after going through the automatic contact ebay several times I figured out how to get a phone call back ….I am now talking to someone keeping fingers crossed.
They don’t make it easy to talk to someone anymore!!

In case you don’t get through, or for future reference, try the “eBay for business” group on Facebook. They take about a day to get back to you, but they seem to know their stuff better.

Spoke with 2 different people got escalated to an appeals dept. about an hour.
Both people I spoke with agreed with me fb extortion and that I handled the situation correctly.
Now I have to wait up to 3 days for an ebay response. Apparently the original denial was ‘looked’ at by someone but I hope now it gets removed. They also told me to block him from future sales.

I encourage sellers to stick up for themselves, but in the grand scheme of things one negative (or even several) doesnt hurt our business. Grumpy buyers will be grumpy.
If this was eating at me and renting space in my head, I’d probably eventually just let it go. I would not let a grumpy buyer have so much power over me.

Perhaps it will be removed in just an hour or so.

On the mobile (app) version of eBay, you have to scroll all the way through a listing – including going past a number of advertisements – to even see a seller’s feedback percentage. It’s so buried that it’s practically invisible. This is not the case for the desktop version, where it’s visible without scrolling. With smart phones having replaced computers for most general-purpose web browsing, I’d say more people are probably interacting with eBay via their phones.
Remember: eBay has 2 feedback systems. One is the Pos/Neu/Neg ratings, and the other is a 4 category scoring system. Visit your user page to see both (click your name in seller hub.) I like to think the latter carries more weight than the former when it comes to ranking your account, but this is just my opinion.

Feedback has been removed !
thanks to all for your help advice and suggestions
I always learn so much from this forum . 😀
I took time checking all the details of your concern up to the issue of the feedback and I appreciate that you took the time and the initiative to get in touch with the buyer to try to work things out. We’ve looked into the feedback you’ve received for this item and I know how it feels to get a negative Feedback when you feel it is undeserved. I honestly believe that you have done your responsibilities for this transaction to go smoothly as possible.
With this, I am pleased to inform you that I have granted your request and have taken the liberty of removing the feedback left by the buyer. Since the buyer’s comments regarding this transaction falls under feedback extortion since they demanded for a compensation even if you already advised them to return the item. You have nothing to worry about as this issue has been resolved. This case will not count as a defect from your monthly evaluation.’

I am so happy things turn out okay for you this time, but I promise you one day you will get negative feedback AND THE WORLD WILL KEEP TURNING.
You did everything right, but occasionally negative feedback happens. So don’t sweat it too much.
