Recommendation for Heat Gun to Remove Price Tags?

Does anyone use one?  Some of them look like crazy overkill but I would like to use as a time saver.  My Goodwill’s stickers are super tough to get off many surfaces and the Scottie peeler doesn’t work.

I use a 2 temp heat gun all the time to remove labels. Works awesome on most things.

yes, those huge non-removable goodwill tags can be rough.

I just hit it with heat until the label darkens  if it is a thermal label and then peel it off.

if you use it on video game or DVD cases with that thin plastic cover, it will tend to deform the plastic. I wouldn’t use this on a $100 video game, but if I had a $100 video game, I’d probably change out the case for a nice one anyways. I’ve used it on 10 to 20 video games DVDs plenty and no one‘s ever complained.

Look into getting an embossing gun. Hotter than a hair dryer but wont burn a hole straight through your item like a heat gun. They have a plastic tip so you don’t burn yourself too. They’re fairly inexpensive.

Stickers are the bane of my existence!  I deal mostly in books but also deal with dvd cases, puzzles and games.  We use this to remove the stickers: Bestine Solvent and Thinner for rubber Cement (cleans ink, and adhesives).  I squirt some solvent on the sticker and then use a Scottie peeler to help lift off the sticker.  It works like a charm and doesn’t stain the paper.

Heat gun sounds like over kill.  I use a standard issue cheap Walmart hair dryer and it works great,  The only stickers I have problems with are those non removable security tags (they have coils of metal embedded in them).  Those sticker leave a residue but I seldom come across them.

Works great on DVDs, paperback books, mugs and other ceramics.

For items where the residue must come off, I follow up with some orange goo gone.

Works 99% of the time.

Yes, hair dryers work fine and you don’t have to worry about burning or melting. I also have a Wagner heat gun, it’s way too much for stickers, I can melt solder with it.

I highly recommend a mini heat gun. I found one like this at the thrift, it’s not bulky and much easier to aim since it’s straight.
