I’ve been searching for something similar to this piece. It’s covered with a thick plastic like a mylar library book cover. I can’t figure out if that was on it originally? It’s torn in spots and where it is torn you can feel the woven material which is really soft like silk or hair. I’d like to remove the plastic before selling since it is torn but I’m hesitating since maybe it belongs on it. Has anyone seen a piece like this? Keywords?

Two thoughts,
1. It could be a praying angel or it could also be related to confirmation.
2. Do not remove the plastic. Depending on how long it has been on there, it may have become attached to the materials used to make the picture, so removing it could damage the picture. Just be exact in your listing title and description as to what you see and let the buyer decide what they want to do with the picture. -

Thank you AdventureE. Good points. It doesn’t seem attached to anything except on the back but looks could be deceiving and I could damage it by removing the plastic.

very cool. The clear plastic is probably a later addition, someone’s idea of how to preserve the frame perhaps.
Spend some time on this page, and you can probably learn a fair bit:

Yes ‘string frame’ were the keywords to finding several of them. That pinterest link was very helpful. There is a wide range of prices. The one below is priced at 125 dollars but others are priced at 20-30.

I can’t really tell from the photos, but I gather the blue tassel type thing is under the plastic? I think originally that was used to hang it from a hook or nail on the wall…

Yes the tassel is under the plastic. Yes I bet you’re right about hanging it! I will check out the Pinterest link too. Thank you.
Would you leave the plastic on or take it off?

It’s hard to say without seeing the iem. I’d probably leave it on, but if I was confident I could take it off without doing any damage, I’d do it.

I think I can take it off without damaging it. When I press on it I can tell it is separate from the piece; there is space between. I’m sorely tempted to take it off. I’ll probably wait until tomorrow though and do it when I haven’t had a couple of glasses of wine already 🙂
