Curious what people are doing. I’ve seen some Youtubers mention that they are skipping the description except to put any condition flaws. I’ve also seen this in some of the Terapeak listings that I am using to sell similar. Also someone posted here that an Ebay rep said the description is not searchable.

I sell mostly books and clothes. I don’t put much in the description field anymore. For books, I put any major defects, publisher, date and # of pages. For clothing, I put the measurements, type of material, and a few other items. I have definitely cut back on the info that I but in that field.

I still copy and paste the listing title in the description field. I got used to doing that, and it doesn’t look right to me if it isn’t there. Then I might add some measurements or explanation if needed.
Lastly, I still have some very basic store standards such as I take returns, we have cats, etc.
I usually leave the defects for the condition description.

I always skip condition description because I feel like no one actually reads that and skips straight to the general description box (where I do include it).
I am pretty detailed in my descriptions, which consist of 4-8 bullet points, and an additional section detailing fabric content and country of origin.
I also quit listing measurements in the description, instead instructing the buyer to “see photos for measurements” which has saved me some time and typos.

You might want to reconsider. On the mobile app, the condition description comes first and the body description is hidden unless the under clicks on the “see details button”.
I usually just put the same information in both fields.

I watched the video ‘eBay Algorithm Cassini, Write Better eBay Listings Good Titles, Structured Data, Descriptions‘ and now I’m neurotic.

I always use condition description for any flaws or condition issues and just use a generic template for text description, such as “very fast shipping.”

I’ve mentioned this before, but eBay uses some kind of “smart” system for summarizing descriptions on mobile. If you type 6 sentences, they’ll attempt to find the 3 or 4 sentences they think are relevant and hide the others behind “Read More” or whatever the button says to show the full description.
I copy whatever is in the condition box to the description. Rarely do I include more in the description. 75% of my listings have the exact same text, and I got so used to writing it that I just configured a key to type out the entire thing when pressed.

I fill out the condition description as if it were my regular description, and put in any flaws, relevant measurements or historical notes (for things like vintage photographs I know the origins of). Then I copy the condition description and paste it into the full description.
In the full description I’ll often note my shipping options for larger items, because not everyone thinks to look at all the choices you offer. They just see the first estimated cost (ie: USPS Priority) and that turns them away if you don’t remind them that, hey, I also do FedEx/UPS.
Oh, and for things that I offer free combined shipping on (trading cards, video games, stuff like that), I make sure to include a brief snippet explaining how to use the Add to Cart function, lol.
I probably overdo it with the descriptions, but I’ve been on eBay for years and years, so I still live by the mantra “Describe it like there’s no photographs, and photograph like there’s no description.”
