People who viewed this item also viewed
So I ‘ve been on my other eBay site trying to search for some of my items some don’t even show up when I put in my own search terms.
But I’m noticing more and more the ads for other items that are similar or the same that I am selling.
How is this affecting my sales ? What do others think about this?Sure as a buyer it helps to compare but as a seller I think it sucks. Someone has free shipping or someone is selling the same item for $5 less etc..
I am selling a lot of vintage collectibles but even then there are duplicates. Can you opt out?

Nope. There is no way to opt out. This is just how it is on eBay. It’s the same on Amazon as well.
We imagine that our listings are showing up as well on our competitors listings as well, so it’s all fair play.
We also dont sweat the sellers who do super low prices with free shipping. They dont last because you make no money.

I just found this page under Account Settings: Marketing Tools Promote your items on other pages But you have to opt out of other things as well as the ‘promoted’ listings. I don’t like it.
Get your items in front of more eBay buyers and drive more sales by choosing from these additional promotional options.
Yes, promote my items in these places :
EmailsEnd of auction / sale notices sent to bidders who missed out on similar items
Watched items emails and watched item alerts on My eBay
Auction and fixed price item pages
Closed item pages displayed to bidders who placed bids, but didn’t win similar items
Closed item pages displayed to other customers
Open item pages across all formats
By choosing this option:
Your items will be shown on pages and emails that are seen by thousands of interested buyers
Similar items from other sellers will also be displayed with your other items on your pages
If you click no:
No, do not promote my items on pages and emails related to other items.
By declining this option:You’ll be missing out on reaching thousands of eBay buyers who are interested in items like yours
Your items will only be displayed on pages and emails directly related to your listings
Items from other sellers will not be displayed on your listings and emails related to your items

That’s cool. So you can opt out of other people’s items showing up on your page? You just don’t get your items promoted across the site? If true, that’s seems like a reasonable tradeoff.
Either play the game or dont, right?

yes you should look at it but I think you also opt out of a few other things I’m not sure if it matters or not.
You also opt out of
Emails
End of auction / sale notices sent to bidders who missed out on similar items
Watched items emails and watched item alerts on My eBayYou have to go to account settings marketing tools Item Promotions

I get what your saying but sometimes I think it will be detrimental. Not for high end specialty items but smaller every day items..
For example I recently bought some really cool cheese knives. (moroccan print)
One seller had them at $15.99 + shipping. On the ‘promoted listings” I saw another seller had it for $9.95 Free shipping same item and this was new. I bought the $9.99. I had not seen them before during my regular search for the knives. So as a buyer it was great if I was the seller they lost out…. -

I posted in another thread a way around this. I noticed that while I was doing a experimental 10% my entire store that when you go into a listing it only shows other items in my store. I’m not sure if this works in every case but I couldn’t seen anyone else’s listings.
It’s possible that running a 5% sale continuously and just upping your prices by 5% may solve it.
