  Hi, anyone know what this box was used for? Looks like newer hardware. There were 2 old shoe brushes in it but I’m not finding anything shoe-related or anything else that’s similar on the inside.

  I imagine that it could have been for a gift set of liquor. It could fit a bottle each on the sides and some fancy glasses in the middle. Or, vice versa. There would have been packaging or cardboard dividers involved.

  The 2 rectangular vertical holes on right side in photo are rough cut (Im no expert on wood tool terminology) but they’re not straight and corners are not perfectly rounded…

  I measured a bottle of wine that I happen to have in my kitchen, and it is 12″ tall and 3″ in diameter. So, maybe? Can’t answer to why it would be rough cut except that someone might have made a special gift box. Or, could be that I’m completely off base …

  The type of hardware and style of construction says homemade or shop-made tool box to me, but it’s a strange configuration. Note that closed, the left door opening faces the back and the right door opening faces the side of the left door, so the large interior space is L-shaped and the right door with its two openings is closed off when it’s latched up. I’m not a real tool guy so I can’t imagine what would fit, but it could have been from a small factory or industrial shop for some kind of long specialized tool they wanted to carry upright. The wood is apparently reclaimed from something. I would have suggested some kind of homemade picnic box for wine or liquor but think it’s too tall to have been purposely made for that.
