Yeah, eBay leadership is obviously needing to balance the books. Looks like they decided to squeeze more fees out. Who can blame them.
Here’s their vision for how they’ll invest the new money:

Their vision is disappointing to say the least.

I have always been a roll with the changes kind of person. And even in this case, I still have to be in order to continue making a living. But I have to say that eBay is taking away the incentive to be a TRS+ seller. For what benefit? All this talk about making things better for sellers and all I see are benefits being stripped away. No talk about more stringent policies on fraudulent returns or restrictions on Chinese sellers. Just penalties for those of us who work so hard each day to be productive honest sellers. It’s discouraging. I’m sure I’ll get over it by tomorrow, but MAN why can’t eBay do something good for us for a change.

I guess that cut in FVF discount is to help make up for the advertising revenue they will loose, since they are getting rid of 3rd party ads. :/ I always did think it was odd they ran ads that could take buyers away from ebay.
While I am not happy about the 10% loss in discount, it does make more sense to promote seller listings, rather than Verizon, like in their example.

Unfortunately they won’t be promoting your item, only someone elses. It will be interesting to start seeing the complaints for lost sales due to the promotions steering to other sellers. Interesting so, if both sellers pay for promotions, who takes precedence? Kind of disingenuous to promote another sellers item on a sellers item page who pays for promotions already.
Sad thing is, EB doesn’t offer any metrics on how effective the promotions are. Just another black box that unknowing sellers will throw $$ at.

Let’s not forget that not only are we losing half of the discount, we are going to have to jump through a smaller hoop to keep the scraps. The tracking uploaded requirement is moving from 90 to 95%.

This is a disappointing update. Over the last year most of the changes have been pretty reasonable from a seller perspective. The reduction in TRS+ discount comes straight out of the pockets of some of their best sellers and is very visible. That change will cost me about $500/yr I believe. The increase in FVF seems much less significant. Only around $50 for the year for me if I’m doing the math correctly.

I think I’d rather they keep the external ads – I always ignore those as a shopper – and not show my potential buyers other seller’s listings of the same or similar items for less money or with free shipping. Just sayin’.

So for TRS+ Sellers, like me, between the .15% FVF increase and the 10% drop in FVF discount, this amounts to an increase in FVF’s of a little over 1%.
What remains to be seen is the benefit of the $30 worth of free promoted listings, when they make them available for single quantity items. If that placement benefit causes an increase in sales that will make the extra 1% worth it, alrighty then, but I highly doubt that there will be any way to quantify that.

eBay has done this before where they add a small percentage to fees which probably makes millions multiplied by all sellers. Then they throw in a little benefit to offset it.
I dont see the $30 Promoted Listings per quarter doing much. Especially if there are hundreds of thousands of items being promoted now.
Its unfortunate, but the equation still means we’ll make money.

It sucks to lose the 10% off FVF but I don’t see a problem keeping up with top rated seller status, I have even made sales off having TRS before (customers have said they bought from me because of my feedback/TRS, on a couple of high end items).
I always have 100% uploaded on time tracking and I just do my best to avoid defects by making sure the customer feels like they are getting a fair deal when a problem comes up.
I have a couple of promoted listings but I don’t see that doing much, just not a lot of multiple item listings in the type of stuff I sell. I can see why eBay wants to get away from ad revenue, I’ll be honest I use Adblocker on their page because it just eats up ram on my laptop and makes it hard to do research for items.
All that being said I hope this move helps eBay stay in business and profitable because when it comes down to it they are our business partner and if they say “Hey you’re doing great but to keep the doors open your bonus won’t be as big this year”, I’d say let em keep that bonus so I can keep making a living, I’ll just have a list more to make a little extra each month. Cause honestly I don’t wanna have to start over on another platform from scratch, thats a lot of time invested.

I don’t like paying extra fees, but I agree here. We would ship quickly and treat customers right no matter what. It’s just a bonus that eBay gives us TRS and a discount. It’s a nice carrot.
Remember that Amazon makes good customer service the norm. They simply have a big stick if you choose to not treat customers well.

Just a couple comments: As to the change from 90% tracking to 95% tracking for TRS: remember, this is the TRS tracking requirement, not the Seller Performance requirement. If you use ebay labels, this just requires you to print out the label within the required time period…this isn’t the rule about acceptances, etc. So, if I have one day shipping, and buyer buys on Monday, as long as I print the label out on Tuesday—even if I don’t actually ship it till Wednesday—I meet this requirement.
As to the $30 for Promoted Listings. eBay is currently running a beta for one-offs, at least in certain categories. It seems likely we will eventually see at least some categories allowing one offs. The beta is supposed to run through April I think. While $30.00 per quarter is not a huge amount, it might be enough to persuade more people to at least experiment with promoted listings, which is probably eBay’s goal.

Oh, I should add…my example is for one day shipping. Same day shipping does require a scan, as well as the uploaded tracking.
The TRS SHIPPING requirement (which is not changing) is effectively 97% must be scanned or delivered on time. If you are meeting that requirement, you should have no trouble meeting the new TRACKING requirement.

A correction, again: ebay’s policy rules are a little unclear, but what is required for the 90% (soon to be 95%) rule is: tracking number uploaded in a timely fashion and at least one scan anywhere along the route to confirm the number is real….that’s true whether one day or same day shipping is involved.

Not only do you have to upload the tracking#, you also need to ship on time. Recently a buyer opened a non-delivered case against me the final day the item was expected to be delivered. It was actually indicated Out for delivery. eBay sided with the buyer even though the tracking was done within the 1 day, however, the package didn’t get scanned by the PO 3 days later. 2 days past my handling time.

So I can change my cut off time to Eastern Standard Time. As opposed to what it is now, Pacific Standard Time. Or I believe you can make the cut off time even earlier. I didn’t quickly see the guidelines for a time frame. So doesn’t that in a sense almost give you an extra day to the tracking upload requirement?

You always had the option to set your cut-off time (account settings). This breaks it down even further. Not sure how this will affect or conflict with handling times, since handling time is business days and not weekends. What happens if you set your work week for Sat or Sun?

I only see being able to change cut off time for same day business handling. I was thinking that this would be for all shipments. Maybe not.
-

That’s correct. You can only set cut-off time. For shipping, EB uses what’s reported via USPS as to when the package is actually shipped.
