I am new to Ebay, about 9 months so please take what I say with a grain of salt. When I first started I got a neutral feedback on an item that I refunded. Since then I stared to include a shipping slip with every purchase that reads in large letters:
“Thank you for your purchase. We take pride in providing a positive shopping experience and in the unlikely event you have any issue with your item, please allow us the opportunity to address the situation to your satisfaction before leaving a neutral or negative feedback.”
I print a stack of these ahead and just slip them into the printer when creating a shipping slip.
Since that one neutral feedback, I have had very good luck in having the buyer contact me directly when there is an issue and I resolve it with them right away. I have had several leave me very positive feedback after everything was done, without my asking for it.
Additionally, I sometimes overstate the condition just to hopefully have the buyer think it was better than described.
Hope this is helpful.

That’s a great idea.
You can also put a note on the shipping label itself.
The same note will print on all of them until you change it.

This is what I include on my packing slips.
“Thank you for your Purchase from Uncle Joe’s Vintage Emporium.”
When I leave feedback it says this.
“A+ Buyer..Thank you for your Purchase from Uncle Joe’s Vintage Emporium.”
That way, if someone else looks at their feedback, or they look themselves it’s free advertising. I also don’t see any harm in getting my store name on the internet and Ebay as much as possible.
Your store is doing great, regardless of how long you’ve been selling.
Your labors are clearly paying dividends.
Good Luck.

Thank you Joe! I always appreciate your feedback and encouragement. And thanks for the tips! I had no idea that you can print something on the shipping label. I will have to give that a try as well as your feedback comment. Clever!!

Yep, we put in those same kind of notes in all our packages. The hope is people read it.
But I just feel it’s the law of averages. If you sell enough stuff on eBay over a long enough period of time, you’re going to get the grumpy buyers who dont read notes and aim their anger at you. If you’ve ever worked in retail, these people always pop up.

I put in a slip too. I quickly hand write their first name at the top and my first name at the bottom. I think if people see their name handwritten, it gets their attention a little more. Plus signing my name humanizes me and hopefully makes them more willing to make contact before leaving a negative or neutral.

Jay, totally! That law is true for every type of group, be it buyers, sellers, candlestick makers. You sell in such volume that it would be really hard/impossible to avoid that small percentage of grumpy folks.

WBird, does your system of writing in the names help to lessen the negative feedback?

I tend to over pack.
Trucker hats are shipped in a box, after being placed in a plastic bag. T-Shirts are put in a clear bag, before being placed in a polymailer. I wrap books in brown paper (masking paper) before putting them in the box. Most glass or porcelain items are double boxed for safety.
I figure if the customer is impressed with the packing effort, they’ll be less apt to make an issue regarding condition etc.
This doesn’t mean I won’t get a negative tomorrow, but I figure it can’t hurt.

You make a very good point. If an item comes well packed, we feel much better about the item.
We’ve bought electronics off eBay that come barely wrapped. It’s a bad way to start.

I can attest to it that Joe packs really well. I purchased an amazing Santa snow globe from him and it was so well packed it could have gone to the moon and back, no problem.

Sigilini, I can’t say for certain but I’ve been selling full-time for 2 1/2 years and I have 100% right now. I’ve had a few negatives, but they were removed by eBay customer service.
