Has anyone ever had this happen. My phone made the PayPal noise that is does when a buyer pays for an item. No ka Ching to indicate an eBay sale though, which was strange. I look at my PayPal and see that an item sold on eBay for $75.00 and the buyer already paid. I go back to eBay to check my solds and still it is not showing up. I search for the item and it is still in my active listings. I could have just shipped the item through paypal and been done with it, but I contacted eBay and let them know. The first reason is I wanted to know why and how that happened (answer, eBay says they have no idea) Secondly, I was worried that if the person decided to return the item there would be no record of it on eBay. Ebay rep told me to go ahead and ship the item through PayPal “you will be protected under PayPal” and that they would submit a report about what happened. About 10 minutes later I go to ship the item and the money has been refunded to the buyer. What?! Not sure if the money was refunded by eBay or PayPal and honestly at this point I was over it. I messaged the buyer letting them know what happened and that the item was listed if they were still interested. A few days later the same buyer did repurchase the item (and thankfully it showed up in my solds). So weird!

I believe this has happened once to us, though we successfully shipped the item. I bet its just a weird quirk that happens from time to time.
When you have lots of moving parts between eBay and Paypal for every transaction, multiplied by ten of thousands of transactions, you’re bound to have problems like this.

I have it happen often where I get the PayPal notification on the phone several minutes or an hour before the eBay cha-ching comes up.
I always just wait until everything is aligned between PayPal and eBay.
The system is amazing compared to how bad it was 10+ years ago when things were not so integrated between eBay and PayPal and you had to match up everything between systems yourself with buyers who didn’t put any explanation for what they bought or used different names/addresses between eBay and PayPal. Even then I thought it was amazing compared to the 90’s when you had to sort out mailed in cash, checks, money orders, etc and waiting for them to clear before shipping an item.

We experience this sometimes as well, where we get the PayPal notification before the eBay notification. It usually syncs up in about an hour or so, so we just wait it out. It always bothers me when that happens though, as when we sell something on Bonanza or TruGether, the PayPal notification is the only one that we receive, so I need to know if I need to update SixBit with the order from those other platforms (so that SixBit doesn’t relist the item).
More often than not, the PayPal system will get 1-12 hours BEHIND ebay, and those notifications are way AFTER the sale on eBay.

Not exactly the same situation, but last night I got an email that the buyer had paid for the item and I should ship it out. Then when I went to my “Awaiting Shipment” list, it wasn’t there. It was still in the “Awaiting Payment” list. It turns out the person had tried to pay with Paypal but for some reason their payment was rejected or didn’t go through. I followed the link in the email just to see what would happen and eBay had updated the page with a red banner telling me not to print a label.

Check to see if they paid through PayPal eCheck. It will still be in your Awaiting Payment, but with an icon that shows that it is waiting for the eCheck to clear.
We have this now on a Bonanza sale…It is still on all 3 sites (eBay, Bonanza, and TruGether), but has a pending eCheck payment against it.
