So I will say that I’m selling basicly everything I get on eBay these days but I buy a lot of table lots and some stuff is just not worth trying to sell, like something that looks collectable but there are 50 people selling it and it’s only worth $10…
So my process is to pick out stuff I think is worth money and line it up on the table next to my photo booth and then take pictures of everything, get 10-20 items ready and then sit down and list. But sometimes I find items not worth trying to sell on eBay. Like I mentioned something only worth like $5-$10 but it has a lot of competition. So what I have found is I have a better shot at selling it local.
I just post things on the marketplace, share them with about 4 buy/sell groups (not even sure why they have them at this point with the marketplace but I’m sure facebook will tidy it up at some point). And I get messages to my phone.
Now it does suck because I have to either meet them out or have them come to my house, I don’t really care if you come by my house cause if you really wanted to find me they already got my name from facebook and they could just look me up at the tax office if they are a real psycho. That being said I have added a little extra revenue stream to the mix by offering items local that I can’t sell on eBay.
Stuff I have sold includes: Routers, plate sets (cheap ones like wal-mart, to heavy for eBay), toys, RC cars, kitchen appliances (blenders, crock pots – again to heavy for eBay), tools and more.
Now I price stuff to move on facebook, if it does not more in a couple weeks its donated. A lot of people at least in my area price stuff at eBay prices but I’m not trying to get rich off Facebook I’m trying to move products I would have just donated cause I can’t make enough on eBay from them. That extra $10-$50 a week is nothing to scoff at especially when they just come to my house and I hand it over and get cash for it.
I still won’t label Facebook as a eBay killer but if they get their payment acceptance thing working, do some type of feedback for buys/sellers and get a deal with the post office for shipping I could see it hurting eBay at some point but not for several years.
Facebook is also only going to work in areas closer to towns or with decent populations. If your out in the boonies people might not come get a item for $5, why spend $10 in gas to get a $5 item.

Glad to see you’re fining ways to sell the cheaper items. Might even make sense to bundle items for more money and a single pick up.

I just recently started selling on facebook marketplace. I just moved, though I still own my old house. I left furniture in the old house that we didn’t want any more (or need), and I’ve been slowly taking pictures of it and selling it on facebook. I have to admit that it’s much nicer and easier than I imagined. You simply take some photos, come up with a nice description, and list it. And you can even list to local groups (we have a few local area garage sale groups that I’m a part of), to spread it out there even farther, though I’m not certain that really helps.
Anyway, I’ve had good luck getting nice prices for things that I felt were worth something (not junk) but too big or difficult to sell on eBay. I’ve used eBay local pickup only a few times, and I have to admit that facebook marketplace seems easier and more efficient. And frankly no fees, which is really nice. I sold an exercise bike for $100, an old pool table for almost $200, and a few other odd things, so it’s a great way to make a little cash and clean out those big things.
I do not do facebook at all, but I do use the facebook messenger app, so that’s useful for selling. People message me and we can just text and arrange pick-up and payment options. Works well.
I have not tried to actually sell something on facebook that requires mailing. I’ll leave that to eBay. I feel more protected on eBay, and so for now that’s where I will do most of the online selling. But marketplace is a nice way to move some bigger pieces.

The quarantine has been my excuse for trying FB Marketplace. For me, the items I am putting on FBMP are items that are heavy or bulky so that the cost of shipping eats up half the cost to the consumer (and profit to the seller). In the last week, I have sold 10 puzzles, 20 pounds of loose Lego, and a bike exerciser. I have people coming tomorrow for a Cobb portable grill and a dog kennel. Best of all, because of social distancing, I can leave things on the porch and have them Venmo me the $s or put cash in a box.
I am most excited about getting rid of some bulky stuff that has been hanging around for too long. The down side has been a feeding frenzy of PMs one night and people messaging me after midnight (happened twice and I returned the favor at 7 am by answering their questions in detail with multiple responses).

Did you buy that stuff to sell on eBay? Or was this just extra personal stuff?

Hey @Jay. Sorry – busy day. I bought all of it to resell on eBay with the exception of the dog crate. I sold it all for eBay prices and gave the shipping savings to the buyers.
As I mentioned before, I have bought lots of puzzles in the past because I enjoy working them. It is also how I confirm that they are complete.
