1. Sold a T-shirt to a guy in Australia 101 days ago. Today he opens a Paypal chargeback case for not as described with no explanation or contact. I’ve uploaded screenshots of sale with terms of 30-day returns and tracking showing delivered. Anything else I should do? He didn’t even say what was not as described.
2. Woman in Israel bought expensive jacket. Tracking shows 3 delivery attempts. She is yelling at me about choosing a crappy shipper (USPS) and that they lie about trying to deliver. Ebay says this will likely close in my favor. I’ve uploaded tracking. Have to wait to escalate until the 12th. Any advice about anything else I can do?
3. Local person asked me to meet for local pickup of a T-shirt. When we met, she said she had to wear it for an event at work. Now she wants to return it and I have to meet her to pick it up. Measurements were in the listing. She said it didn’t fit. The event at work is over.
4. Somebody bought vintage pastels. I did not say what dimensions they were, just that they were used. They say they didn’t expect them to be so small. Says item not as described. I did not describe the size. Offered partial refund to make them go away. They said no. Now they’re shipping them back at my expense. I didn’t want to risk the negative by making them pay for the return. Should I have?
Thanks. I’ve never had an eBay day like this.

It often happens that returns for us comes in waves. I dont think it’s an eBay conspiracy…just random coincidences.
Sounds like you’re handling the issues professionally. Cost of doing business.

Wow, that woman in #3 sure has a lot of nerve! I second what Jay said, it sounds like you’re handling them all very well so far. Keep us updated!

I would not meet the local pickup person. Tell her to open the case and then just wait it out for 5 days before closing. Getting it back to you is on her – not your problem. If she mails it back or makes other arrangements that doesn’t inconvenience you then that would be fine too. Odds are good that if you make her work for the return she’ll let the 5 days pass.

We never ket people pick up in person unless the item is too large to ship, or is very expensive.
It’s not worth our time to have a local person pick up a $20 item. Too much hassle with meetings times, etc.

I feel your pain. I would be so irritated at the lady in #3!!! omg! Honestly though rather than refusing her, I’d just say this:
“I’m sorry to hear you aren’t satisfied with your purchase. Unfortunately I’m unable to meet up with you. If you’d like to return your item, select ‘return this item’ which can be found under your ‘purchase history’, and follow eBay’s prompts to guide you through the return process.”
That way she won’t have anything to argue with or complain about.

An update: On 4/12 I got an email from eBay that the case with the woman from Israel was closed in my favor. Then yesterday I got another email saying the same case had closed in favor of the buyer because I had failed to refund her. Huh??!! I called and the agent said the buyer is allowed one appeal after the case closes. I reminded the agent that delivery had been attempted 3 times. She said I am also allowed one appeal and closed it in my favor AGAIN. I never heard of this appeals process so I wanted everyone to know about it.
In the case of the man from Australia who did not make a peep until 101 days after the sale, I am still waiting for a decision from Paypal. I talked to someone there and she said she has seen people file chargebacks as old as two years. She also said the burden of proof for a buyer claiming not as described is just about nil.

Man in Australia got to keep the item and $101. I submitted all documentation and never was told how item was not as described. Painful. Because he chose to chargeback through his bank, Paypal’s influence was limited in the decision. No way to defend myself to the bank. Argh.

This is why we always give the buyer the choice to return the item. Either they return the item, or they keep it. We never let the buyer be able to keep the item and keep their money.

I agree with your policy. This person never made contact with me before doing the claim on day 101. Urr!

If the transaction was made through ebay, then there needs to be repercussions through ebay to curb this bypassing of the process crap.
Ideally you would be able to open a case on ebay and submit the details of the case. If anything, this would allow ebay to keep track of people who abuse the paypal chargeback loophole.
