Just got an email about managed payments. Seems sellers will randomly be forced into the program over the next few months:
Dear Seller:
Our records indicate you have been previously invited to managed payments – eBay’s simplified seller experience to sell and get paid. Based on our review of your account, the features and tools you use on eBay are fully compatible with managed payments. To benefit from the new payments experience early, register at ebay.com/paymentsregistration. All eBay sellers will progressively be required to transition to managed payments in the coming months.
Managed payments offers more ways for buyers to pay with credit, debit and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and PayPal Credit. Payouts will be automatically deposited to your bank account. Sellers receive consolidated reports, simplified seller protections, one monthly bill for all fees, and access to dedicated customer support. New features include a single unique number from order initiation to payout, and the ability to issue partial or full refunds to buyers, directly on eBay or via a third-party platform. Sellers who have already joined report high satisfaction and recommend managed payments to other sellers. To learn more about managed payments, visit ebay.com/payments.
Cut out the ending, which was just more advertisement of MP.
Here we goooooooooo!

Ugh. Thankfully over 15% of my sales are via GSP so I’m exempt for awhile, but the writing is on the wall.

Yeah, I got that too. The daily funds transfer thing holds me back the most, I don’t need that and it’s just more work for me. I’m going to set up a separate checking account for that. Other than that I don’t have any problem with this. There is some kind of sign-up incentive going on through Sept if I recall the message correctly, have to check.
I saw a banner ad on my PayPal account to sell on Bonanza, I’m sure this is causing PayPal some pain but they are finding other income sources all the time.

Same here. Same Pandering message and avoidance of pop-up from Ebay.. They are being very persistent..
I am holding out until I can no longer do anything about it.
I don’t like being a test monkey. -

One thought. When they say one monthly bill with all fees, does that mean they are going to add the transaction fees to our monthly bill? That would be horrendous. It’s bad enough that I have to pay over $1k per month at one fell swoop, but now it will be even more. WHY can’t they take out all fees per transaction like Paypal? How hard could that be?

Required soon? Depends on how you define “Soon”. Sometime next year, everyone will be folded into it….but not before June or July. Per the Paypal-eBay Split agreement, ebay could only manage up to 5% of GMV before this June (or July, I forget which). That increased to 10% through June/July of next year. After that, the limits are gone and it will be mandatory, whether done as a gradual rollout or a big one time thing, I don’t know. I’d guess more of a rollout. So we’ve probably got through at least middle of next year before we won’t have any choice.

Yeah, I think all messaging is as expected. It’ll be a while before everyone is forced into into. They’re just hoping people voluntarily join.
I cant imagine they would make Managed Payments the default till they link it to Global Shipping.

Hello everyone,
I also received this email and have been mulling it over. Obviously we will all be forced to change in the, possibly, near future. It might be next summer, or it might get rolled out in the middle of the holidays. I am not a big fan of change, but eBay loves it. I wonder if it’s better to switch now to discover the bugs while my store is still in a summer slump, or risk dealing with the nightmare of change in the middle of the 4th quarter. I wouldn’t put it past eBay to change the game in the middle of the holiday season, would you?
Any thoughts?

I luckily have not been pestered yet, but also I have a PayPal Capital loan that I’m working through. If I opt in to managed payments now I would void the loan agreement with PayPal and have to pay off the loan immediately. I will paid in full with them before the end of the year so I should be fine with accepting management payments later in 2020.
