Howdy folks,
I’m Lisa. I registered a long time ago, but am just now posting to introduce myself. I’m a stay at home mom with 5 boys, ages 21 to 10. I started selling on eBay with gusto about a year and a half ago. It’s been an amazing part time income, and really flexible for a homeschool mom like myself. I’m hovering around 470 items in my store, and sell around 3 items a day, on average. My average 60 day sales totals hover around $6000-$7000 or so. I sell whatever I can find to turn a profit. I’m from the Dallas area, so there’s an abundance of quality clothing around here for flipping. But I’ll also sell household items, art, textiles, kitchen items, etc…you name it, I’ll sell it. I keep all my inventory at my house. My parents lived with us for 6 years because of my dad’s health, and besides a bedroom / bathroom, they also had a small living area and office. A year after my dad passed away, my mom moved into her own house, so that gave me lots of extra space to store my inventory. It works perfectly, because I’m kind of a minimalist with my own possessions, and those extra rooms keep my eBay stuff isolated from the rest of our belongings. Out of sight, out of mind! Anyhow, just wanted to wave to everyone. I’m a devoted podcast listener, and when I first heard of Jay and Ryanne more than a year ago, I worked my way backwards and listened to almost all the podcasts available. What an amazing help you guys have been in my eBay journey. Thank you!

Five boys between ages 2-10!!!!!
That job is not going to get easier. You’re doing amazing on eBay on top of everything else.
Do you use your profits for anything special? or just going into household income? -

Oh dear, no! I think you misread that. Between the ages of 21 and 10. 10 is my youngest! My oldest 2 are college age, so the nitty gritty of day to day homeschooling has eased up quite a bit.
So…what have I used my profits for? Buying more inventory, of course. And, I’ve helped pay for last year’s vacation to Colorado, senior photos for my son, ACT tutoring, career testing (very expensive, but worth it) for my 2 oldest, a new dishwasher, a new washing machine, Christmas gifts, restaurant meals with the family, and other enrichment activities like plays, museums, etc…Oh, and I bought a Macbook last year.
Also, we purchased a rental property in College Station for any of our boys who attend. Our 2nd son currently has 3 roommates whose rent payments cover all expenses associated with the house. My husband’s income covered the downpayment, etc… but I used eBay profits to outfit the kitchen, buy appliances (fridge, washer, dryer), my son’s bedroom furniture, and living room furniture. Of course, I got great deals on everything, as I bought most of it from craigslist.
Profits are increasing because I have fewer business expenses as compared to my first year. Initially, I bought lots of bins, shelving, lighting, and random seller’s tools (for rehabbing shoes, cleaning items, etc…) I’m sure I’m missing some big things I’ve purchased, but having been a single income family for most of the last 23 years of marriage, it’s been nice to breathe a little and have additional funds for things not normally in the budget.

I went to Texas A&M back in the early 90’s. A great place to buy property because the city is basically just college kids.

Haha, yep. It’s growing by leaps and bounds. I emailed you guys a few months ago, and we found out we had TAMU in common, even the English degree. I graduated in ’94. Real estate there is fantastic. It’s not where I imagined having our first rental property, but it’ll really help our boys cover college expenses, and we’ll be building equity at the same time.

That’s right. I graduated in 95 with an English degree. It was a strange college for liberal arts. I was one of the weirdos who hung out at Dudleys.

Yes, strange for liberal arts. Other than the fact that I met my husband there, and I really do love that town, in hindsight I’d have never picked TAMU for an English degree. Engineering, business, architecture, for sure. Liberal arts, no way. But hey, I’ve got that piece of paper and a secondary teacher’s certification (back when they were lifetime certifications) in case I ever get a “job job”, which I hope to never do, thank you eBay!
