Anybody else have a lil scavenger in training??
I listen to this podcast in the car all the time because I can’t really think of a single time Ryanne or Jay swore, which is nice. Sometimes he’s not in the mood to listen (understandable, he’s 5) but actually more often than not he listens intently and asks questions about “what the heck those guys are selling” haha. Anyway, I started selling when I was a stay at home mom and needed to get out of the house to stay sane, so he started going sourcing with me when he was still in a sling. Now, on our day off together he often asks if we can go “treasure hunting” as he calls it. We go on our regular route of little thrift shops around town and he gets to find cool cheap toys and I get to source for things to sell. He already has gotten good at picking out stuff that I would choose to source. He can spot a pyrex from a mile away lol. He also really enjoys finding interesting coffee cups with me. Everybody knows Maxy at our thrift stores, and it’s cool that he’s learning that all this stuff will be someone’s treasure! Last night my husband got home and he runs over and exclaims, “daddy guess what!!!! mommy found uranium glass for 25 cents today!!!!” Love my little partner in crime. Anyone else have a little scavenger?? I’m hoping that when he’s a teen he can have his own store!!

Brings back lots of memories when I used to take my son out book hunting when he was little. I admit I bought a few books he picked out just because he picked them out, not that I needed them for our store. 🙂 He did end up with lots of fun toys too as we treasure hunted. Enjoy every minute because they grow up way too fast!

That’s a fun way to spend time your son. I know there have been scavengers here who shop with their kids, and even some kids who go on to sell on their own. I wish my parents had taught me how to run a business.
She doesnt post much these days, but Nandry ran a blog where she documented selling on eBay in high school: https://theteenthrifter.blogspot.com/

very cool!! Thanks for linking to that Jay, totally gonna check it out. Yeah, my parents were always scavengers but never sold a thing. You guys would have a FIELD DAY in their house. A huge victorian home filled to the brim with antiques and one of a kinds. They keep stressing about not having a retirement plan lately and I keep telling them their retirement plan is everything that’s sitting in their house. They have so many valuables but can’t get past enjoying them. I like to enjoy the stuff I source *until it sells*. and then I enjoy seeing money in my bank account lol. But I do have to give them credit for giving me an eye. I was raised to have an eye. And I’m happy to pass that down to Max 🙂

I don’t have my own kids, but I like to take my nieces and nephews (all under 10) out scavenging and let them pick out a thing or two from the thrift store and I list it for them to sell.
Most items are junk, but surprisingly there have been a few toys that I would never even look at that they have sold for $10-$30.
They like to follow the listings, and contact me soon as they sell to get there money…gives us something to talk about and do together as I have no clue what else to do with children!

@Inglewood – sounds like you do have an idea of something to do with children! What a fun thing to do and a great way for them to learn!! love it!

I have a little scavenger too! She’s three and loves going with me. I hope she continues to enjoy it. Her brother and sister are teenagers and gripe about having to go with me, although they have and do sell stuff sometimes too.
