Hello Everyone!
MY name is Kevin and I live in the northeast corner of Alabama (just outside Chattanooga,TN.) I am married with 3 daughters (17-20) and a Surgical Technologist by trade. I started selling on eBay back in 2010 on a very limited basis. Back then I was finding and selling books on Amazon and ebay for extra money.
I found Ebayscavengers podcast in 2013 and started hitting the thrift stores and actually got up to about $1500 a month part time. I sold for about a year or so before my regular job started taking too much of my time and I slowly quit ebay. I work in surgery and have very long hours. In fact, Friday I was in surgery for 20 hours! I am 48 years old and beginning to wonder how long I will be able to stand on my feet all day.
I have never stopped listening to the podcast and lately I have been contemplating starting my ebay store up again. If I could work up to $3500-4000 per month, I could easily cut back to part time or completely at the hospital.
My biggest dilemna at the moment is trying to decide on a business model. I had always followed Jay and Ryanne’s model (variety of merchandise, list and forget, etc.)

So, when the surgeon says “scalpel”, are you the guy that hands it to him and says “scalpel”? Or are you the guy doing the surgery?

Yes Sharyn, I am the guy that hands the surgeon the scalpel. I also assist the surgeon with the surgery (retracting tissue, suctioning, cutting sutures as he ties them, etc…)
Jay – I would love to build up my eBay business to the point I just work part-time in surgery. I could actually get there pretty easily because I have been focusing lowering my bills. The older I get, my mantra has become “Don’t make more money, Need less money.” My home and property are paid for and I have very few bills so we could actually get by on very little.

Welcome Kevin! You sound like a good example of our model. If you put in then hours, the money does come. Obviously once something takes over you time, eBay income falls.
Working in a hospital, especially surgery, sounds super interesting! It all just depends on where you want to out your time. Our eBay income definitely rises and falls as we do other things.

Exciting Update!!!
It looks like the universe is working to help me restart eBay! My hospital has been contemplating a “weekend” shift for surgery. Today it was approved AND I was picked to be the Surgical tech on the weekend team!
-What does this mean? – Instead of working all week, I will clock in at 6am Saturday mornings and clock out 6am Monday morning. I will be in the facility for 48 hours straight but probably only work around 16-20 hours over the 2 days. I will receive 40 hour pay and retain my full-time status and benefits!!
In other words, work two days and off 5 days every week! I will be able to spend m-f on eBay!Woohoo!

Wow. Seems like the perfect schedule for what you wanted to do.
Just curious: why would the hospital set up a shift like this? It’s awesome for you, but pretty inefficient for a full-time salary. Is it an emergency room surgery shift?

It is beneficial to the hospital in several ways.
1) It eliminates any of the other surgical staff from having to take call on weekends (big moral booster)!
2) The team chosen is some of the most experienced which will provide the Surgeons with consistent, experienced team.
3) Our duties will include extra things like cleaning our own rooms after surgeries (eliminating need for a housekeeper to be on call), and washing and sterilizing any instruments we use that cant wait until Monday to process (eliminating the need for a sterile processing department employee to be on-call.
4) As time allows, we will have side-projects such as organising supplies, cleaning and restocking operating rooms and other things that we always need done but never have time to do during the regular work week. -
