Hello Trash Elves,
Just a quick note that Kmart and Sears had more bad numbers and more store closings are expected, though they are currently denying the rumor that whole Kmart chain will be terminated. This week, I purchased some toys at Kmart.com for local pickup at quite a good price. Eg. Lego set for $30 that is currently selling on Amazon for $80 and regular price was $50 or 55. Supposedly, employees previously had been ordered to put all of the backstock out on the floor, potentially offering some opportunities. -

I have a Kmart close to my house. I honestly have no idea how they have stayed in business. The place has a new manager every time I go in there. Their checkout system is a total mess. It routinely takes 15+ minutes to check out for just a few items. I’ve had to have my entire order rescanned more than once because of their crappy system.
Having said all that, they do occasionally have a good clearance sale. I’ve done plenty of RA there and buy a lot of my kids clothes off-season when they make all the clearance $1-2 per outfit.

My little town also has a K-Mart and its like going back to the 80’s when I walk in there. I’m pretty sure the local, very large, little-old-lady population is keeping them afloat as I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been in there in the past 5 years. They are building a Super Walmart a mile down the road so I’ve already predicted the imminent demise of our local brick and mortar way-back machine.

I’ve never liked Kmart as they ask too many question at the checkout. I just want to swipe and go.

Oh and not to mention their tree killing ways with the receipts! I’ll buy one thing and they print out a 4′ long receipt with a few extra “coupon” receipts as well.

Not K-Mart, but this was a great costume!

Retro you probably won’t like what I do with my shoes then lol. I use a brown paper bag from the super markets and roll it down onto the shoes and place them in a large priority / shoe box priority / or eBay box to ship.

That’s actually pretty clever. The bag protects your shoes AND is the dunnage.

I found this list of stores that will be closing and offering closeout deals soon:

We went to a Kmart last year that was closing. They supposedly has 50%-75% off their price. But after doing a lot of scanning, it felt like they just raised the price…and then discounted. Their “going out of business” sale lasted more than a month
I assume its like an estate sale where the real deals are on the very last day.

I think you are right about the best prices coming just before the last day. I also wonder how deeply they would discount when they still have other stores they can redistribute the items to. I’ve done a little RA, but not with such great results that I have any plans to participate in this since my local Sears is not on the closing list.

I agree with Jay– the only store closing sales we ever found great deals suitable for FBA was when staples and office depot or max did a lot of closings.
The bigger problem for me with walmart and kmart is that by the time things get to the right price the shelf wear is horrible. On ebay that is fine becuase you note it and move on. The problem with FBA is that it is used or like new by definition. And you only get the premium price if you can list as new. Even pristine stuff is technically not new if you can’t pass the warranty on. Short story long it’s a recipe for FBA disaster if you send in something with shelf wear as new.
