Went to print out a shipping label/pkg slip for a sold item this morning and noticed there was no charge for shipping. Looked back at my original listing. All looked good, ‘shipping charge varies by location’. I never use free shipping. I wondered, ‘How did this even make it to, ‘Ready to Ship’..without the buyer paying for shipping?
Called Ebay. In a Nutshell, they told me to cancel the order, contact the buyer and tell them:‘Hi, I was packing your item and noticed that the shipping charges were not included when you paid. I just talked with Ebay and, after looking into this issue they advised me to to cancel this order and re-list, so that you may purchase again with the correct shipping charges included.’
I relisted the item.

A few hours later the buyer messages me, ‘So how much would shipping be to 96746 -your listing is still showing free shipping & best offer’.Whaaa?
I check the listing….looks good, just like I set it up.
I go in and enter the buyers Zip and hit ‘Get Rates’. Up pops ‘Free Shipping’. (tried a few other zips and they worked correctly, showing the shipping charge)Call Ebay Again. Nutshell..they tell me to tell the Buyer to call Ebay.
Anybody out there have any input on this?

“‘shipping charge varies by location’”
Sounds like you have rate tables enabled on this listing. Evidently the buyer’s zip falls under Free Shipping per the rate table. Go to item>Revise Item>Shipping Details and see if Rate Table box is checked.

I just made a similar post on this same issue. Glad to see it isn’t just me.

I wrote a post about this last week but the forum ate it.
Buyer in hawaii got free shipping on a very large and heavy item. I talked to ebay and they kept telling me it was because I had GSP on this item. I kept asking what GSP had to do with it and they said Hawaii and Puerto Rico were in GSP.
I told them that was not true, and even if it was that it wouldn’t give them free shipping. They said they’d look into it, but obviously they haven’t.
They’ve been messing with sipping in 4th quarter and that is INFURIATING!!!
They have not raised rates to match the new rates so I’m eating that cost. The shipping selector is all buggered. I even had an item yesterday where the buyer selected and paid for Fedex smart post – I don’t offer smart post!!! How did they select it???

Huh, so are people saying eBay is changing shipping options?

For Incompetent Picker…
where exactly is the location of the Table Rates option? I cant seem to find it. Attached is my screenshot so you can be more specific.
Thank you kindly 🙂

Hi Dahlyla. Your shipping details page is slightly different than mine and doesn’t have the Rate Tables check box. On my page it is just above the “Services Calculate Shipping” line. I do have saved rate tables to choose from and it’s likely you do not so check box doesn’t show up for you. So my guess was not correct, likely an eBay issue. Sorry!

Thanks for responding IP
Well, hopefully action is being taken to address this.
Long conversations with several Ebay reps yesterday, repeating the same verbiage to 4 people with no resolution took up enough of my time. I lost a sale..ebay lost a sale.
The Buyer is likely going WTH.We’ll see what happens when more sellers hit this roadblock

Retro Treasures…I just read your posting. My Buyer was in Hawaii as well (Zip Code 96476). And at first, one of the reps thought my transaction was GSP as well.

So last night I had another one. A pair of rollerblades to Hawaii. Buyer got free shipping and when I checked the purchase shipping option, fed ex was “free” for me too. Oh you know fedex will bill me so don’t buy that free bullcrap!
I reported it again. After the rep tried to tell me I had free shipping on the listing (I didn’t) they did look in the bug report and technical does have this as high priority to patch. It appears to be only Fed Ex shipping options to hawaii and Alaska that are affected.
They told me I should expect a callback within 24 hours, and that they will credit me shipping on this order so I can still fulfill it. I will be shocked if they actually call me back – they never do.

@RetroTreasuresWV – I would be surprised as well on the call back. I’m sure you’re on it, but check for the charge as well. I know I’m keeping an eye out for mine. An earlier one that I was promised a credit for never happened, and the agent didn’t make note of it. The rep I spoke to the second time had them pull the conversation and after that I got a separate note relaying that I had been credited for the charge (not Fedex).
Glad to see you’re a bulldog on staying on top of them, too. Good to know that they are acknowledging the problem now.
Mike
