Is this pottery for holding tobacco pipes? Something else?

  Hopefully I’ve added the image(s) correctly. If so, there are 4 photos. I haven’t found anything like this. It looks like it could hold tobacco pipes which would be great because pipes = $$ but I don’t have any pipes to test it out. I’ve included a photo of it with an egg for scale. Maybe its just decorative?

  This is really cool! Deviled Eggs is my first thought. It would be easier to pick them up from this piece compared to the usual trays.

  That is a very cool looking piece. At first glance, it looks like a serving tray, but I can see how the compartments could’ve been molded to hold pipes. I wish I had information to add, but my research didn’t net much. I am interested to know what it is now.

  My dad was a pipe smoker. It does remind me of something to hold pipes but also is giving me deviled egg dish vibes too. Hope you figure it out.

  Thanks everyone so far for the assistance. I have found some additional information about the pottery studio that made it. It was made in Kalona, Iowa at a now closed pottery studio. The land was/is owned by the Amish so I wonder if the pottery was also made by someone Amish. I don’t know if that helps identify the purpose of the item in any way but good to know nonetheless.
