It’s hard to see the detail, but if it is made of individual stitches on a canvas, that is needlepoint. Needlepoint is a form of embroidery, but embroidery is usually done on a fabric with floss. Needlepoint is done on an open-weave canvas and generally covers the canvas from edge to edge. Tapestry is usually done on a loom.

I agree that it is needlepoint. I was able to zoom in on the photo using ctrl+ enough to see the individual stitches.

It’s possible that the person who “needled” it has never been in a house with an open fire!

Question: do sellers put embroidery as a general key word on kits or art that are needlepoint and cross stitch?

I always use embroidery as a keyword on cross stitch kits or finished items. Cross stitch is definitely a type of embroidery. I’m not so sure if needlepoint is technically considered a type of embroidery. I think of it rather as a type of needlework, for me that would be the broad category for all of these types of crafts.

Cross stitch is a series of “x”s-thus “cross”. It is also referred to as “chicken scratch”-I believe it is used interchangeably, however, I do believe the “chicken scratch” term is mainly used when sewn on gingham fabric (think the red and white picnic tablecloths pattern). Yes, I agree, needlework is the correct term for all of the embroideries. When listing, I have seen many ebayers incorrectly list their items as “needlepoint”, when in fact it is cross stitch, but to be on the safe side, I think using all of the keywords would be your best bet to get the most views. Bargello is another style of needlepoint and of course there are many others. I mention bargello because it’s more of a 70’s look (think jaggedy zig zags. Embroidery, while a broad term, is more commonly referred to a series of different stitches used in a work. And then there is crewel work.
You could go down a whole rabbit hole in just embroidery and the various stitches!
