I sold an item about 40 days ago via Local Pickup that I may need to cancel. Cancel Order is not showing up as an option on the drop down menu. I’m guessing there is a time limit for this option. Does anyone know for sure.
Thanks.

Why do you need to cancel? Has the buyer paid?

It’s a long story. He paid and is having a friend pick it up and send it to him.
His friend is evidently a busy person. She made one appointment and did not show up, call or anything. She said she “Overbooked Herself” for that day. She has no car and relies on public transportation.
Another time she was going to come by, but didn’t realize it would take so long to get here and she had a day party to go to that day. Based on other conversations I’ve had with her, I don’t believe the pickup is ever going to happen.
I’m waiting to hear back from the buyer to see what he wants to do. It’s not a very expensive item, but based on size, weight and the possibility of a return I chose not to ship it.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I say you’ve done your job.
–She paid and knows it’s local pick up.
–You’ve made yourself available for her to get it.
–Now it’s her move.I wouldn’t stress or chase her down. It’s her item now. If she chooses not to pick it up, then that’s her loss. People are weird.

I will agree with Jay. You have the money, just wait for them to pick it up. Maybe message the buyer every couple of weeks to see what their plans are.
Unless it is in the way, I wouldn’t worry about it.

There’s some kind of drama going on between the buyer and the woman he expects to pick it up for him. I figure my life is busy enough, that I don’t need to make their problems part of it.
I appreciate the comments and agree with them.
I was curious if anyone knew how long after the sale, Ebay would allow me to cancel it (at buyer’s request). I no longer see the option in the drop down menu.
It’s not a big deal and if I need to, I’ll take the steps and figure it out when the time comes.
The members of this forum have so much experience, I was looking for a “been there, done that” type of response, regarding the length of time to cancel.
Thanks again for the responses.
Happy Friday..

I would think that if the “cancel order” capability were to go away, this means the buyer is past the time to cancel the item.
Here’s our “been there, done that” story: a woman from Brazil bought a bed frame on local pickup. We gave her all the info she needed to pick up the item. We never heard from her. After six months, we re-listed and sold it again.

Fair enough…
I’ll see if this guy responds to my last message, otherwise I’ll just go silent. In a few days, he won’t be able to leave feedback anyways (I think).
He’s still got other options, item not received or Paypal refund etc, but I will deal with those if and when they happen.
Many many years ago I had a buyer from South America buy a “Local Pick Up” item and pay with Bidpay, which was like a Western Union cashiers check. He never showed up for it, but back then Ebay was a different place entirely.
Life is an adventure, hopefully it never becomes too boring.
Thanks again..

Here’s my “been there done that” 🙂 … I had a buyer purchase a local pick up only antique school desk (I’m in Ohio – she was in California) – she had no intention to pick it up and asked why I couldn’t just ship it to her (she didn’t read the listing)- I explained I didn’t have the set up for it but would be happy to provide shipping solutions and work things out with a shipper of her choice – I emailed her a list of freight shippers and she said she would look into it and then I never heard back from her. I contacted her once to ask her if she had decided on a shipping service to work with – and again, never heard from her. So I didn’t do anything… As far as I am concerned, I am still “holding her desk” two+ years later. I expected her to ask for her money back or leave me bad feedback – I would have refunded her – but I decided not to chase her down and she never responded to me so I didn’t do anything. Eventually I will relist the desk for a higher price when I get around to it, but for now, my kids enjoy playing on it and it is not in the way in my basement.
Good luck with your situation, So Cal Jo…
