  Hi Everyone,
  
  I found this in the print/painting section of a local thrift. There is a nail spike on the extended end. No ledge or lip to stand a painting… Is it missing a part? Is it a fabric tool? marked 3 1/2 on the wood base…

  I did wonder whether it is the back leg of an easel, but I can’t see anything similar. The other possibility is that it’s off a surveying instrument tripod. Good luck with it!

    I was wondering about a surveyor’s tripod, too. If the pointy bit is on the end that has the one leg, maybe there is supposed to be some sort of instrument suspended between the forks of the other end?
