I get asked for business cards a lot and am looking to do that prior to yard sale season coming up. I’d also like to have a website so I can have my own email address, but don’t really plan on doing much with a website at the moment. Should I still buy a site and forward the new address to my email? Would it be tacky to have that and then a webpage that reads “under construction”? If so, would it be hard to basically port my ebay store onto a webpage? I am not really sure on the best course of action here. Any ideas from this fine forum? Thanks!

I’m confused. If you don;t want to use a website, why not just get a free Gmail account? You dont need a website to have an email.
Print a card that says “John Doe, Estate Clean Outs, CityEstateCleanout@gmail.com, 444-4444”

this is where we got postcards printed for the farmhouse rental. cheapest place to get business cards that i could find online–

unless you just buy Avery cards and print them at home, that’s probably the cheapest-est.

Right. And that may be the path I take. I do aspire to have a website at some point and I like the professionalism that myname@mywebsite.com portrays. I suppose it comes down to that vs cost. If it is rather easy to basically port my store to a website and maintain it, I wouldn’t mind that route. I also want my business cards to promote my ebay store as well as that I buy. One side has my store and contact information, the other side would give a short list of things I buy. Maybe that is not the best idea? I’m bringing this up to see what others have to say. Sorry if the initial post was a bit confusing; I hadn’t had an entire cup of coffee yet!

this is my take on being “professional” w/ a personalized URL, email etc–
no one cares.you have a gmail account and your phone number and description of what you do? that’s all people need.
my mom was obsessing over the name of her store (she wants to open a 2nd one) and i just told her- no one cares. they want to buy your stuff because it’s quality and presented nicely.

Well put. That makes sense from a frugal and practical standpoint.

As a starting point why not do this..
set up yourstore.com and set it up so all viewers are forwarded to your eBay store URL
and set up a sales@yourstore.com mail box
I do NOT suggest goDaddy by the way

that’s a good idea! forward to your store, that’s easy enough.
we use siteground for hosting this very site, and we love them. -

To get a “custom” email address you need two main components. The first One is a “domain” basically the http://www.whateveryouwant.com address. Registering a domain usually requires an annual fee to a registrar like godaddy or hostgator. I pay about $20 a year to godaddy for my domain. Then once you have a domain you need your email “hosted” someplace. Most registrars will do this too for an additional monthly fee. I pay google $5 a month for a business google drive account and that includes hosting one email address as well as things like 30gb of storage for all my eBay photos and business docs.

I’ve use Dreamhost for about 25 domains since 2005
Very awesome company on many levels. No ad’s, up-sells like GoDaddy and a very clean user interface. Total access to every aspect of a domain, hosting and email.
This is my affiliate link http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?94023
I am recommending them because I am a happy long time customer.
Dreamhost make me happy LONG TIME :-)))

Hi,
You can do what you want very cheaply without needing a web hosting company since you’ll only be redirecting visitors to your eBay store.
1. Register a domain name with GoDaddy (or any registrar) for a couple of dollars. See the current promo codes for GoDaddy here (especially #2):
https://www.retailmenot.com/view/godaddy.com
2. Setup domain forwarding to redirect visitors to your eBay store:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/forward-a-domain-12123
3. Sign up for a completely free Zoho Mail account:
https://www.zoho.com/mail/zohomail-pricing.html
Easy to setup in Thunderbird (or any other email software) and they also have an app for smart phones. More info:
https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/
Total cost = A few bucks for the domain name. Fowarding is free, Zoho mail is free.

I would not recommend GoDaddy or HostGator either. I use GoDaddy for my bookkeeping and their support is awful. I have also heard that sometimes there is trouble moving your domains from there. I recently signed on with 1and1.com — they have many inexpensive options. I think I got a deal where I got my domain and the whole first year of the site for about $25.00. So far I have been very happy — though, honestly, I have the email setup but haven’t ever gotten around to the website itself. I keep saying I am going to learn WordPress.
For people who want to buy wholesale, it is helpful to have your own website and email and business cards as they are sometimes requested to get admitted to trade shows.

What we did was establish a URL for our business, and just forward it directly to our eBay store. The benefit was to just be able to give someone an easy to remember name to go home and type in, we also created a QR code and have it printed on the back of our business cards that goes directly to our eBay store.
