Hi Everyone,
Long time listener, first time poster. I’ve been selling online for about the last nine years and listening to Scavenger Life for most of that time. A friend and I started out buying furniture at live auctions and reselling locally on Craigslist. Eventually we transitioned to more smalls and mostly selling through eBay. When our inventory outgrew our basement and garage we ended up with a small warehouse space to run things out of. But as big as it got it was always just a serious side gig for us and eventually our full time jobs and lives got too busy and we had to shut it down a few years ago.
So I restarted on my own as a much smaller hobby project a little over a year ago. Then I got waylaid with some medical issues and a couple surgeries, so it went back on hiatus for the last 6 months or so. It’s starting back up in earnest again (still as a hobby) but now that my pre-exisiting medical stuff has me pretty well quarantined with the pandemic, I’m getting to try out a new sourcing method through online auctions. I figured with all the changes this would be a good time to join the forums and track my progress on here.

Hey Jay,
Business was good for a few years. Gradually we shifted focus to smaller stuff and I think the market also changed as the economy improved since we started near the bottom of the recession. We also noticed that stuff started taking longer to sell, which I think was largely a result of Craigslist’s market share around here getting eaten into by Facebook and the other local selling apps like OfferUp and LetGo that we never moved onto. If we started over again now, we would definitely have to make use of Facebook. I wouldn’t say we made a lot of money but for a part time gig, it did pretty well.
