Hey everyone,
Recently I reached out to Jay and Ryanne to talk about the aspects of flipping while enlisted in the service. We just did an interview today and I hope you guys really enjoy I had a lot of fun with Jay delving into some topics. I just wanted to come in and introduce myself to everyone.
I Only recently began in February but since then I’ve seen consistently netted profits of $300. I really enjoy the hunt of that special item. To think this item has been walked by at least a thousand times and no one thought to purchase it yet, it sells online for $50. Plus i know we all get that rush when we hear the chime of the cash register.
So yeah hello. I look forward to learning from everyone.

Hey everyone just giving this thread a bump. I had to basically dump my inventory of fall that same year and stopped for about two years. Big changes in life have happened since then and Iām no longer in the military but Iām getting back into flipping. I have a pitiful 10 items listed. Lol.
I have to admit the landscape has changed quite a bit in just two years so I consider myself as starting fresh. I look forward to learning from you all and growing my business.

Well to begin with I feel as though there are fewer flips available in my usual string of shops. I used to usually hit my route and come home with 10 items. These past 2 weeks I’ve got a measly 10 items, for a total of four trips I made. I feel as though people are more brazen and flipping is more mainstream. Just the other day I saw a thrift store owner scanning his own book inventory alongside a flipper and they were chatting about FBA. Maybe it’s anecdotal but flipping was more hush because people felt as though they were being cheated. Maybe cash is king now and as long as everyone is moving inventory we’re all happy. EBay seems much more complicated and seems like a maze. I can see how a newbie would get discouraged by the steep learning curve. I’m doing some AB testing with different things: promoted listings, titles, free shipping, pictures, etc. Take this all with a grain of salt its all perspective and my main take away is flipping is more out in the open, there are less unique items and more retail rejects, EBay has a steep(er?) learning curve. All in all, just means I got to hustle harder. Looking forward to it!

This is a good take. Many of us have continue to sell so dont see the incremental changes that are big changes over time.
–With the rise of Youtube, I agree that “flipping” has become codified in many ways. A person could start from scratch and find/sell items quickly just by spending an evening watching videos.
–eBay has certainly become more complicated. Rules built on top of rules. I think much of this is just a function of becoming a mature selling platform. I know sellers love the ease of selling on this new platforms (Poshmark, etc), but it’ll be interesting if they stay simple if they continue to exist. Usually these rules happen because of counterfeit items, scammers, shipping complications which can become a significant problem and hurt the reputation of a platform.
Craigslist is a drop-dead simple platform. Its also a place where it’d be difficult to run a steady business.
