Hi All. Just wanted to share some info. I had an issue with a pair of boots not being able to sell through the global shipping program to Canada. I believe Steve had mention fairly recently that he had a similar issue. I messaged ebay for business Facebook page on several issues lately since this seems to be the only way for me to get someone in customer service who understands what my issue is. When I asked why a pair of boots I had wasn’t showing for Canada in the GPS they said used clothing aren’t allowed to be shipped through the global shipping program. She didn’t say why but to use add a secondary international shipping option for Canada for used clothing.

Huh, we just shipped a used shirt tonight through GSP to Canada.
If what that rep said was true, then that rule (no used clothing on GSP) should be documented on their website.

could the shoes have been some odd leather that is banned by customs?

huh weird. They are leather. Were made in Canada. She said the no used clothing to Canada not the entire GSP. I’ll mention that and ask to see in writing.

Any hard and fast rule like that will be in writing. Even doing a google search should bring it up if it exists.
But the GSP program can be weird. We’ve sold items that seem to randomly be excluded but it’s not consistent.

I am in Canada, and I buy used clothing, including leather items, from GSP sellers in the U.S. all the time.
The only thing I can think of is that the leather is from an endangered species that is not allowed for import.

Nope not endangered species of leather. I’ve asked to see something in writing stating the reps claim. But the boots sold this morning to someones in the us.
Ebay really needs to be more consistent in their customer service. I used to be a supervisor for a call center and if I had CS reps giving out different information to different people all the time. I would have my boss and our client all down my throat for giving out false information. I’ve had to fire people for giving our false information. They need to get their $hit together.

Totally agreed. I think a company would save money by having fewer staff if they were well-trained and empowered to solve issues. Clients would be happier too.
Its crazy to think you could hire a bunch of people for minimum wage with a binder of answers is crazy. No one comes out good this way.

A new ebay rep has answered my latest question and this was his response.
We don’t have a specific list here, but if you see http://ebay.to/2hMrtEq you can look at FedEx who do have a great list for import restrictions. In this case it doesn’t appear to be just used clothing, but the fact that it is leather as well, as it’s animal related. That may be why the shirt was ok, but these boots were not. ~Destin
Really ebay.

Thanks for letting us know eBay’s answer.
What’s funny is that if you sell it in a different category, their system may let it through. It’s all very arbitrary. I’m not sure if I totally blame eBay othen than them trying to follow convoluted international and national laws and restrictions.

I can’t believe they sent me to fedex’s policy. I’m not using fed ex I’m using ebay. Leather was also not on the restricted list on Fedex. If the computer program picked up that it can’t go through GSP to Canada because they are made of leather. Then there is a list.
