Sold a very cool couch for 1000 bucks on eBay out of state buyer. After I accepted their offer I see they have ZERO FEEDBACK–ouch. They are gonna have to set up shipping and they know the item has some flaws, but I am afraid that some sort of case will be opened soon after because the person didn’t even ask any questions before offering 1000 bucks. Does anyone have any ideas on how to protect myself from some sort of scam.

I would offer that you keep all communications and tranactions through ebay. If anything feels like it might be a scam, you may want to consider canceling the sale.
If they want to call or text you about picking up the item, send them a follow-up verfication message through ebay so there is tracking from start to finish. If you do think it is some kind of scam, check your PayPal and Ebay accounts to make sure everything is in order before they come to pick up the couch. You may want to have someone else present when they come to pick up the couch and take a picture of them picking up and loading the couch.
I would take it one step at a time. If a return request occurs when they come to pick up the couch, have them go on their phone and request the return through ebay.

Thanks for the help. I didn’t think about all of those things. They will be hiring some sort of moving company because they are out of state–does that change anything for you?

No, not at all. Through ebay messaging, have them send you the name of the company and confirmation information verifying they have contracted with the company to pick up this item. Also have them send you the names of those picking it up if they have them. Also have them clearly state who will be the one to approve the condition of the couch before putting it on the truck. Check the company ID of those coming to pick up the couch and maybe even take a picture of it. Let those picking up the couch know that you are going to take a picture of them taking the couch. Once the transaction is complete, send the buyer an immediate follow up ebay message with the details of the pick up.
Finally, always trust your gut/inner voice. It is the most powerful resource you have. -

Buyer backed out–boooooooo
It wasn’t up long (like a week) so I am encouraged and it should sell pretty soon.

Totally agree with the above. Take it step by step, keeping all communication on eBay. If it becomes complicated or weird, just cancel the sale.
Zero feedback usually doesnt always mean a scam. We sell to zero feedback all the time. Often new people create an eBay account to buy a specific item they cant buy elsewhere.
What kind of couch is it?

Thanks a million Jay–the couch is an English Made leather couch. Chesterfield I think they call it.

Second Jay here. I’ve had people create ebay AND paypal accounts just to buy my specific item. These folks in my experience have been some of my best customers.
The only time I hesitate with a zero feedback buyer is when they make low offers. Nope. Not happening. Pay full price though? I don’t bat an eye at the lack of feedback.
